October 13, 200619 yr I read in last months Maximum PC magazine that both Intel and AMD are finishing work on a "reverse hyper threading" technology that allows the two cores to be "seen" as a super core. And that would really help with single core applications. There may be a light in the tunnel for FSX performance after all! Does anyone else know anything about this tech?
October 13, 200619 yr Veeery interesting. Would like to see more on this. Off to surf. Thanks for the heads up on that.Dave

October 13, 200619 yr It doesn't seem to be on the near-term timetable--at least I haven't read anything about it at the usual hardware sites (i.e. Tom's). If it happens at all, it's probably quite a ways out.
October 13, 200619 yr Author October issue..(not november). So this article was way after the summer rumors! Indeed the same article says that Intel calls this reverse hyper threading "Speculative Threading".
October 13, 200619 yr Author The article says that the feature is already build into conroe. Its just disabled. So it may not be as far away as you think! They do these things to have newer CPUs to sell!
October 13, 200619 yr So then all the people predicting the end of computing power increases might just be wrong? Wow, who would've thought that would happen? :-lol Seriously, multicore processors can't be the final story in CPU power...there are just too many limitations on applications. There will have to be some way of multiplying your processing power...not just paralleling it. Although I hadn't heard anything about this kind of technology before, I had assumed that some breakthrough would occur eventually. Otherwise, computer advances would stagnate. There is just too much at stake to let that happen, and not just when it comes to Flight Simulator.-Ivan
October 13, 200619 yr >to me they HAD stagnated for the last 3 years!Benchmark an AMD Athlon 2400+ and an Intel Core2Duo 6700 and compare it. Sorry but your one line statement doesn't do it for me. JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
October 13, 200619 yr Author I bought my 3.4 ghz system with a 9800 pro in November of 2003! So don't go back to AMD 2400+. Furthermore, Core2Duo 6700 just got released less than a month ago. So for 3 years before last month they were stagnante!
