ORBx TrueEarth GB bridges

Featured Replies

I note that some of the large bridge models in TrueEarth GB are a bit more basic than I would like. Examples of this include....

  • Tay Road Bridge - missing the three long support pillars at the point where ships pass under the bridge.
  • Tay Rail Bridge - missing the long central section with the girder spans.
  • Tavy Rail Bridge (near Plymouth) - very basic wireframe which (sorry) looks rubbish when compared to the eight span steel girder (four red and four white) and multiple brick arch real world bridge.
  • Runcorn Rail Bridge - same as the Tavy bridge; very basic wireframe. Thankfully, I have a much better version included in the Digital Design Liverpool Airport package.
  • Queensferry Crossing - rather basic looking model that does not have enough support pillars. I have replaced this with the much better Scotflight version.
  • Tamar Road Bridge - towers do not extend high enough above the road deck.

I have not checked most of the bridges in TrueEarth GB, but I worry that some of even the largest and most prominent bridge models will be less detailed than I would like. I really do think that large bridges are just about the most important landmarks in a flight simulator scenery package, and the 3D models need to do them full justice. I would actually prefer to not see a bridge model at all rather than a poor representation of one.

Does anyone else feel the same?

I agree Christopher, if a big bridge isn't modelled correctly it really stands out as they are used as vrps from miles away.

I know what you mean and I fully agree.

I also dislike the mess they make of ordinary road bridges for rivers, railways etc.

They are often huge and steep, very unrealistic, why?

Are they what are referred to as "extrusion bridges"? If so, I have them disabled. As I stated above, I would rather not see a bridge model at all rather than a poorly modelled one.

EDIT: Now posted on the ORBx forum.

How do you disable them please?

There is an option to disable them in the ORBx Central Configuration Menu for each respective TrueEarth GB package. Sadly, that does not eliminate the awful wireframe Tavy Rail Bridge

Sorry but I don't see it, I've found the config menu but all it offers me is the option to change layering auto or manual?

Have you contacted Orbx with your thoughts?

Are you looking in the right place? When I left click "Configure", I get options to enable or disable the following....

  • Windfarm turbines
  • Road tunnels
  • Road traffic
  • Extrusion bridges
  • Animated waves along some shorelines
  • New ORBx night lighting technique

This is the same for all three TrueEarth GB regions.

I have posted the same comments in the ORBx P3Dv4.x Compatibility section of the forum, but maybe it is the wrong place as there has been no response to date. To be honest, I never quite know where to post comments on the ORBx forum, as they quite often get moved elsewhere....

So I'm in centre with a list of my products, I select TE North for example, I see configure near the top, than the only offers me layering?

Evidently not.

Have you updated to the latest versions?

Yes everything is up to date, I'm using the X-Plane version, that shouldn't make any differance should it?

Maybe an ORBx moderator could move it to a better location?

Yes, that makes all the difference, you are being advised by a P3D v4 user.
