Incursion into Scotland

Featured Replies

Take off from Newcastle in the early hours so that we catch them sleeping!

We on this flight shall be remembered—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That flew with us upon Satur--day.

Apologies to Bill Shakespeare.

Scenery: I have Orbx TrueEarth  England North South and Middle which includes Scotland. I also got Orbx Edin-burg. There are no other add on sceneries necessary.

Distance: Approximately 310.73nm

Stops: Nothing Rogeresque.

Aircraft: If possible, something with shark's teeth painted on the front to instil a bit of fear.

NOTAM: Be aware that we have intelligence reports that the Scots are now in possession of the latest Mk.IV AA Haggis. Keep 'em peeled!

This is a hush hush operation so keep the FLIGHT PLAN to yourselves.

Good luck chaps, what!

Ron,

takeing us into the land of the " PICTS "  (scots ) is something to be very wary of,  not only have they got the latest MK1vAA hagis, they have developed the double barrelled one arm caber tosser,

although it has been tried only once,  ( Dougie McDougle used it at the royal highland games when it backfired & blew him backwards to the royal enclosure with his kilt around his neck) not a pretty site,

the queen was not amused as she was eating Tatties & neeps at the time.

I am told that if shot down & captured you are placed in an "ARBROTH" smoking house & after several hours you are released proper kippered.

regards   😬

A timely warning Brother Roger. On behalf of the whole Expeditionary Force, thank you. So let's be careful out there.

Thanks for the opportunity to fly over and salute the Wallace Monument, in effect a Scottish national "hall of fame" near Stirling Castle. It was here that the Battle of Stirling Bridge (1297) made William Wallace a hero for his clever tactics that allowed an outnumbered Scottish army of infantry and archers to defeat an English invasion force led by mounted knights. Later, Wallace was betrayed, captured, and sent to London where was "tried" for treason in 1305.

Wallace was taken ...  to the Tower of London, then stripped naked and dragged through the city at the heels of a horse to the Elms at Smithfield. He was hanged, drawn and quartered—strangled by hanging, but released while he was still alive, emasculated, eviscerated and his bowels burned before him, beheaded, then cut into four parts. His preserved head (dipped in tar) was placed on a pike atop London Bridge.
(Wikipedia)

And just south of the Wallace Monument at Stirling was fought the Battle of Bannockburn (1314) in which Robert the Bruce daringly attacked and defeated a much larger English invasion army and made Scotland independent. The fate of Wallace does not seem to have frightened the Scots into subservience.

Over the subsequent seven centuries, of course, there may have been some ups-and-downs in English-Scottish relations.

It must be satisfying to have planned our flight to acknowledge these great moments in Scottish history. Or not ...
😎

Clever ol' Mike. He saw through my plan immediately. That's my narrative blown. :rolleyes:

I did some bits of the flight this evening and I was gob-smacked by the scenery. If you have the full set of TE England it's an absolute treat. Plus great 'performance'.

For some weird reason I seem to appear only at the start of the flight and at the very end. :unsure:

Is Roman trying to tell you something Ron ?.   or is it because you were absent some of the time due to ctd's.

I am glad to be back in the land of the goat herders as i can now get some proper mutton stew. (never did like Tatties & Neeps )

regards.
