October 18, 200619 yr I'm assuming the real G1000 can display windspeed and direction but I haven't found a way to display wind info in FSX. Anyone know how to or is it not possible in FSX?

Anyone know how to or is it not possible in FSX? Your assumption is incorrect. The real one doesn't either...You can always press Shift-Z to display wind speed and direction. Fr. October 19, 200619 yr The REAL one does have wind direction & speed. There's lots of stuff missing from the FSX version. All the good stuff too :(The TIS(like TCAS), TAWS (Terrain awareness warning system) & the WX overlay.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159031.jpg
October 19, 200619 yr Not forgetting the `North Up` option on the map page. At least, I haven't found it yet and it's a show-stopper for me as the Garmin conversion course spends a deal of time explaining the best times to use `track up` and `north up` to better aid orientation in different modes of flight. And how do you get NAV 2 to display concurrently with NAV1? And no display of the cowl flaps position in the Mooney? well, not unless you switch to the VC.Allcott
October 19, 200619 yr Oh god yeah. North up is a must. Don't you just go insane when someone changes it to TRACK UP."And how do you get NAV 2 to display concurrently with NAV1? "I don't think you can in the FSX version. The HSI directional pointers are also missing.
October 19, 200619 yr Thank you, Elvi5. I realize MS didn't set out to replicate the G1000 in intricate detail but the lack of windspeed/direction is a curious omission. Maybe they just forgot :(
October 19, 200619 yr How does the airplane get the info about windspeed/direction in the first place? Is there a datalink to weather station systems or something? I mean, the plane itself isn't gonna detect it, right?
October 19, 200619 yr >Oh god yeah. North up is a must. Don't you just go insane>when someone changes it to TRACK UP.>Personally, I would only use north up, if I was going north. Of course, this would then be the same as track up.:-hah North up is the way to go with map mode for a flight plan. Can't off hand, think of any other reason for North Up. Otherwise, I always use track up, which is the direction of flight. Just speaking of experience from my Garmin 296.L.Adamson
October 19, 200619 yr >>How does the airplane get the info about windspeed/direction>in the first place? Is there a datalink to weather station>systems or something? I mean, the plane itself isn't gonna>detect it, right?Wrong. The GPS knows the ground speed and ground track, and the primary flight instruments + pitot system know the air speed and heading. So the wind speed and direction can be derived on board.
October 19, 200619 yr Author It is incredible that they didn't model a $30,000 or so installed instrument in 100% perfection in a $70 piece of software-shamefull...:-lolI have the garmin g1000 sim on my computer-brings it to a crawl-and that is not even running a sim at the same time...http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
October 19, 200619 yr There are a number of G1000s out for FS9 that cost about 20bux.I sure someone will develop one for FSX soon.Geoff: you refering to the Garmin G1000 trainer? It runs perfectly here; maybe you need to turn your autogen off :)
October 19, 200619 yr Author Yeah -the Garmin g1000 trainer runs great-by itself.Try running something else at the same time-let alone a flight sim.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
