June 27, 20205 yr I thought it would be of interest to post this amazing footage of a Ukranian Su-27 Flanker and.... a Shorts Skyvan... Just beautiful to watch... June 28, 20205 yr 'Of interest'? I'll say. 👍 The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
June 28, 20205 yr Guy does a pretty good job of staying with the Skyvan and is smart enough to pull clear when he starts getting out of shape instead of pushing it too hard. Some great flying skill there. 🙂 Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 28, 20205 yr Author I like how you can hear the Sukhoi's whistle and roar over the Skyvan's noise.. EDIT: Interestingly, whilst you can hear the Flanker pilot modulating the throttle to maintain station, I do not think he ever used the airbrake at all. Some aerobatic teams use the airbrake in conjuction with building thrust against its drag in order to help stay in position, I believe. Does the C have some kind of autopilot eliminating any skill or is it because it just flies slower? I mean the B can just deploy it's lift fan and vector its nozzle a bit so that cheats! No malice in my question - just genuinely curious! June 28, 20205 yr Author Thanks Rob. You're probably right that it could get closer and hang with a Skyvan. I went looking for F-35 low speed flight and found this scary footage of a low energy cat shot test (no afterburner used despite the sink after coming off the cat!). A non-test pilot (or at least an armchair simmer would have been plugging in the burner as soon as the sink was noticed I reckon. https://www.militarytimes.com/off-duty/military-culture/2020/05/28/watch-this-f-35-nearly-plummet-into-the-ocean-during-a-carriers-limited-power-test-launch/ Mark Robinson Part-time Ferroequinologist Author of FLIGHT: A near-future short story (ebook available on amazon) I made the baby cry - A2A Simulations L-049 Constellation Sky Simulations MD-11 V2.2 Pilot.
