October 22, 200619 yr What happened? Was the dusk lighting working in the Beta. I can understand the Sahara dessert landclass thing since most of you did beta testing during the summer months and it only shows up in spring and fall.Thats my 2 biggest beef with FSX. The low frame rates we knew were going to happen it's just these two makes wonder what happened to the beta testing. Please take no offense because this is not flaming anybody its just a ?that should be addressed.
October 22, 200619 yr Are you sure? I thought that aces gave the ok when FSX was hitting the store selfs. I could sworn that it was posted someway.
October 22, 200619 yr Beta testers can not comment on the process itself. However, I think you can imagine generically-you have reported 2 problems after a few days usage. Now multiply yourself by 100 at least, and then imagine you have had 3 months to compile problems. Beta testers test and report, at that point their job is done. The company takes the data and does with it what they like.I have beta tested for Fly, Pro pilot, and several of the fs series-it always works this way.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
October 22, 200619 yr With all of the problems in FSX, it kind of seems like I just paid $70.00 to become a beta tester :(

October 22, 200619 yr HiI reported this in another thread. Everyone has their own personally opinions of what is a big issue to them. This one is a big one. During the "which ones should we fix guys" meetings I wonder what feature beat out the "need lights and dusk".RegardsBob
October 22, 200619 yr There were hundreds of bugs in the first demo, and about 6 weeks later its on the shelf. It was always going to be a buggy product.
October 22, 200619 yr >There were hundreds of bugs in the first demo, and about 6>weeks later its on the shelf. It was always going to be a>buggy product. That sure defeats Beta testing then. I guess even us diehards are comming to accept the fact that this was rushed should of gave it more time. Yes we would of complained about that to but at least we would of had a better product.
October 22, 200619 yr I can assure you of one thing, a lot of the beta testers (myself included) did not hold back on our scathing opinion of the state of the code during testing. We weren't shy about telling ACES what we thought of the code, textures, landclass, SDK etc. etc. we were being asked to test. If you think the beta forums were a happy jolly place akin to Snow White strolling through the forest with butterflies twittering all around her - think again. At times there was a LOT of friction between the devs and the testers. Of course, we can't go into specifics but I wanted to let people know it wasn't a honeymoon. One thing I will say is that I told ACES to wait until December 2007 to release it. I guess that message was lost somewhere in the fray.
October 22, 200619 yr thanks for that, at last someone makes sence. It just looks to me as if MS along with all other large corporations will do anything in their increasingly hopeless attempts to improve the bottom line. You'll probably find that MS second half figures are taking a battering because of the vista debacle, fs10 should have been after vista with dx10 but here we are.I think the best thing to do is start saving for that new hardware.Yes i know MS makes loads of cash as it is, but its the relative figures that matter.
October 22, 200619 yr By 'dusk lighting' I assume you refer to the problem that I saw: that if you set the time to dusk the world is pretty dark - but the lights are still off. I think it's necessary to advance the time by about an hour to make the lighting come on (by 'lighting' I mean building and ground texture lighting).I totally agree. This is a *major* defect (or does anyone know how to fix it, maybe with a cfg change?)Lighting comes on at dusk in FS9. However, I recall that several versions back the lights didn't come on at dusk. But by chance I found a cfg change that fixed it. I believe it might have been the DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING setting, but changing it in FSX had no effect (by the way, does anyone know what this setting is supposed to do?)If, like me, you like to fly at dusk to enjoy the sky lighting effects, it's really annoying to see the cities and buildings experiencing a global power cut. I certainly hope that if a cfg change cannot restore the lighting then it will be fixed by Microsoft.Best regards, Chris
October 22, 200619 yr The dusk lighting bug doesnt happen for, i get loads of lovely lights at dusk just v low fps
October 22, 200619 yr The DX10 enahancement is an opportunity for the ACES to set many things right. If they would admit (to themselves), there are problems with the product that needs fixing so many could realize the true potential of what FSX is meant to be. FSX if a great flight sim in many ways.
