July 14, 20205 yr My current system is: CPU - i5 4690 ; RAM - 16Gb 1666Mhz DDR3 ; a very old motherboard ; GPU - Nvidia GTX 1060 Gaming ED Using CS 767 (a frame rate consumer) and getting about 25 fps with cloudy weather, default scenery and most sliders set at LOW to MEDIUM using P3D v4.5. I am looking at upgrading to: CPU - i7 10700; new MB Gigabyte B460M; RAM - 16Gb 3200MHz DDR4 and keeping the GTX 1060 Will this give me a decent increase in fps using CS767 with higher graphic settings? I am not able to upgrade the graphics card at this time. Trevor
July 14, 20205 yr Why is FPS so important to you? I have 30hz, but it's by design. I lock at that which leaves headroom for other tasks. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
July 15, 20205 yr hey trevor. I want to let somebody who has had this card chime in. When you look at the task manager graphs during flights does your graphics card look like it is maxing out? What resolution do you run it? 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

July 15, 20205 yr I don't know that you'll see a tremendous improvement over the 4690, mostly because it's a non-K CPU running on the B460M chipset, which doesn't offer much flexibility w/r/t turbo boost. It should run smoother as a result of the additional cores doing terrain loading, but I doubt the frame rate would see a big improvement. With a 10700K and a mobo with a Z490 chipset, you can at least prevent the CPU from dropping the clock multiplier under load...even if you don't overclock the CPU beyond its capability at stock voltages, it'll be quite a bit faster than the 3.8 GHz you'd see with P3D loading all the cores up. fps is primarily a function of the throughput of the main thread, so having it drop to 3.8 is going to be underwhelming as upgrades go. You might be able to minimize the boost drop by locking out a few cores with an affinity mask, but I'd still rather have the options afforded by an unlocked CPU and Z490. July 17, 20205 yr For me, in v5 I think the limiting factor is my ddr3 1666 mhz memory. I don't think it can push my 1070 hard enough. In, p3d v3/v4, I could bring the gpu to it's knees. After all, v5 requirements states dd44 / 2666 mhz memory https://www.prepar3d.com/system-requirements/ I tried looking for faster dd3, but qvl just doesn't seem to be available for my mobo anymore. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
