Multiplayer..shared cockpit?

Featured Replies

I haven't seen anything about the 'shared cockpit' feature like we had in FS 10....anyone know if it's part of the package?

Jay

I can’t remember this has been commented on. At least in the MP episode where it surely would have belonged was no word on it.

I was afraid of that :-(..... looks like I am stuck with FSX, since I need it for use in instruction.

I've been deeply working with Shared Cockpit for about 16 years and I've had a hand in every third party shared cockpit aircraft released during that time frame, so this is a subject near and dear to my heart.  While I have not worked with Asobo on Shared Cockpit (and I'll say that's a shame for the FS community), the company I represent is under a NDA so I am not able to specifically comment on anything.

What I can do is share a link to a post on the subject, and that's all I can do.

Best wishes to you guys!

Thanks Dave! That at least gives us a bit of hope. I'd be happy even if only a few planes had the option. Please keep us posted if there is anything else you hear and can share. Us MP guys are a small group, I hope they include us!

Not true!  In fact, not even close to being true.

First though, we have to get the terminology correct, and that's far more important than you might think as MS is going to devote resources to where the people are and using the wrong terminology only skews the data in the wrong direction.

Shared Cockpit is, absolutely, 100%, NOT "multiplayer".  The only thing the two have in common is that Microsoft's Shared Cockpit code, which can only be used by aircraft that use default FSX gauges (thus can't be used by high end third party aircraft) was reached by going through the old FSX Multiplayer screen. But the code itself has/had nothing whatsoever do to with multiplayer.  When I say "nothing", I mean that. So if you want your voice to be heard and vote to be taken, you have to refer to this as Shared Cockpit.

More than just having a computer engineer and networking background, and more than having been involved with every third party Shared Cockpit aircraft over the past 16 years, I've actually consulted for viral airlines, specific shared cockpit groups (and I've run a few of them myself) and I've communicated and worked directly with hundreds of flight simmers on the subject of Shared Cockpit and through them I've likely reached thousands.

So, let's not perpetuate the myth, there are loads of people who love shared cockpit and even more who would if they they knew about it.  You would not believe how many people in our community don't even know it exists and many more who do but don't know who to contact/work with to enjoy this incredible experience.  I was working to correct that in a big way, but I've been having some needless struggles in that area over the past year or so.

Finally let me say that as far as Shared Cockpit in Airliners go, 70% of better of the people who do this aren't aware, but they are absolutely failing to have the incredible experience they could be having. Ignorance is a special kind of hell akin to putting a frog in room temperature water and slowing heating it up to boiling.  The frog is fat, dumb, and happy while being absolutely oblivious to what's actually going on around him.  Then again, so long as they're happy...

All the best!

But Dave, what the heck does one do with the cooked frog afterwards?

I'm not a programmer Dave, I'm a pilot! lol.  Saying MP is a lot easier than typing out 'shared cockpit', and I hate typing!  🙂

"and even more who would if they they knew about it."......and that was my point, too many never explored the options in FSX, MP-SC-ATC etc. I used to fly with a group of a dozen or so and we had a blast, unfortunately the group split up to other things over the years. Through trial and error we discovered that even planes that were not designed for SC could at least partially be used in that matter, we really pushed the envelope.

One can only hope!
