It took many years for Arno Gerretsen to develop Model Converter X to allow such modifications to FSX and P3D models. Interesting. This sounds like it was an easy thing to do in X-Plane... was it a similar situation where you’d have to decompile an airplane to get it into their aircraft editor?

I'll let n4gix take this but suffice it to say that Arno's MCX revolutionised the SDK for FSX - and that means P3D - and made modifying available to everyone. His genius was in that the Model Converter X was like the Rabbit Hole - you could keep going down and down and down in to the levels of editing aircraft - or any 3D synthetic environment as far down as you needed to go to get it right. It's perfect and it still is. I think it might still be made to work in the new sim. But don't quote me on that. Edited July 16, 20205 yr by Will Fly For Cheese

After all, we're still talking about ESP - much changed but, ESP. Actually we aren't talking about ESP. ASOBO are using an entirely novel format for their compiled model(s). Arno may eventually mange to parse the format, but certainly not immediately. Everything in MSFS will be different architecture completely. There is no .air file at all. Every bit of the FDE is text based. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
