October 23, 200619 yr Hey guys--Has anyone else experienced the same thing: when I switch panels using the 'A' key, or the button on the panel on any aircraft (let's say, 172 going from tall panel to short panel) a couple of seconds later I get a pause, and then all graphics 'white-out' for a second or so, and the sim returns back to normal. I tried to capture the screen but to no avail so far. At first I thought it was tied to some graphics settings in the game, so I played with those, and even at lowest settings it tends to happen. I didn't change anything else graphics-related and otherwise the sim runs a steady 20-24 fps, it's just this annoying glitch. Maybe the 'aces' team members can chime in, if they have a chance. I have updated my drivers after experiencing it first to the most recent 91.XX series drivers from Nvidia. Any thoughts anyone?Cheers,
October 23, 200619 yr If you mean the VC textures turn opaque for a few milliseconds/seconds then yes, i have that too, I think it's just not having enough video card power. My screen doesn't white out though, if that's what you mean | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
October 23, 200619 yr Nope, nothing turns opaque. It whites out completely. It was pretty interesting, actually on my last test, the clouds were turning black, everything else in the sky white, and the panel was black as well. Just for a stutter, two seconds and it's back to normal. Looked like all textures just reloaded.
October 23, 200619 yr Same problem on my end, and I've been trying every combination I can think of to solve it: new video drivers, different AGP aperture sizes, various tweaks listed on this forum, etc. No luck. At this point it seems the only way to avoid the freeze-up, short of buying a new graphics card with more memory, is not to leave full screen for any reason. Thus I've been trying to remember to take care of all my "menu business" before loading flights! I think WideFS will be a temporary work-around, if you want to consult a flight planner or moving map or that sort of thing.Incidentally, do the entries for TransitionTime (and there's one other, but it's escaping me) in the fsx.cfg have any bearing on this? I wouldn't mind having even a pure dark screen for those few seconds--anything would be better than the graphical freeze-out.
October 23, 200619 yr Oh, I just noticed on rereading your original post that your problem is a bit different from mine. I don't have the freezing when changing views--only when initially loading a flight or returning to full screen from windowed mode or after having changed settings, viewed the map, etc. Otherwise, the symptoms you described are exactly like what I've been seeing...
October 23, 200619 yr You mean this? Before moving the mouse pointer over a clickable area:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159480.jpgThen this happens (and freezes for several seconds). Note that the RPM window also has diappeared temporary:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159481.jpgGraphics adapter ATI X700, 256 Mb (latest drivers installed)Happens only in full screen mode.Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
October 23, 200619 yr >I see this as well--using an Nvidia card.I get it with my ATI X800 card. Latest Omega drivers installed. However if you're seeing it on your Nvidia card, it's not a driver problem! My specs are below, my hard drive is freshly defragged. I have only noticed it since I've introduced Autogen back into the settings, and even then only when flying over London. I flew the "find the baby elephant" mission with lots of autogen trees, and never saw this problem.I suspect it's possibly related to building autogen. A missing texture perhaps?
October 23, 200619 yr I see this too...nVidia 7900 GT at 265 MB.I've seen it prior to any tweaking, and also after all tweaking - seems endemic to the program right now. -Greg
October 23, 200619 yr Especially spectacular when flying at night!I don't think it is autogen specific since I don't use autogen.
October 23, 200619 yr Yes, that photo shows what the background looks like when this happens to me. But in addition, since I fly only from the VC, the entire panel area is also corrupted. The whole screen is a mess. It's frozen with unfilled textures for a couple of seconds, and then all the images load and everything's fine ... until the next time I exit to menus and return to full screen.I don't think it's autogen-related, since I disabled that feature. Maybe a video memory issue, but I thought 256MB would be sufficient--not optimal, but at least properly runnable? Are all the other sufferers using AGP cards, like me?This problem is really the only serious issue I'm having with the sim. But it is truly annoying...
October 23, 200619 yr I also had this problem and this is what fixed it for me.I'm at work now and don't have FSX in front of me so I willdo the best to explain. I don't remember what menu it's in butyou need to turn off the cockpit tool tips. This is the featurethat when you mouse over the dials or buttons in the cockpit it tellsyou what the button does. When you turn that feature off you willnot get the delay and white out conditions.Mike
October 23, 200619 yr For me, it's not a problem of tooltips (though I did try your suggestion. Thanks!). Every time I come to full screen, either on the first loading of a flight, or returning from windowed mode, or after having gone to the menus to change a setting, there's an initial loading delay of a few seconds. I don't mind the wait, actually ... it's just that the textures look absolutely horrible. There are other people suffering from this, as recorded in this thread: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search
October 23, 200619 yr Howdy,I've experienced a similar event however, my screen turns a hot shade of pink. Seeing as I just got the sim this week-end I've been rolling over everything in the cockpit to see what works and doesn't.Going to keep searching through the forums for a potential fix but thought I should add my comments to the group for tracking.Mike
October 23, 200619 yr Yeah, it's the same problem. It's not always a "white" out, per se. I've seen a variety of colors, depending on the aircraft and the textures that are being loaded.
