How I've decided to fly in FS2020...

Featured Replies

Sorry OP, didn’t make it past the first paragraph. TL;DR 😛

Nah, just kidding! I like your idea and wish I had the patience to do that. I am going to do a coast to coast tour of the US a little at a time as time permits.

Chris

I also plan to do an immersive program.

I'm still working on it, but here's my plan in a nutshell...

- Start with the in-game tutorials... assume I've flown down to Arizona for some refresher training

- Then using my home base of Vancouver, BC, I will fly to several small towns within the area (probably using the 280 Caravan) just for my own interest

- Then I will assume I've been hired to pilot a private 787 owned by some multi-Billionaire that wants to see the world with his family and friends.  We will use that for travel between countries and then use one of the Cessna business jets or the Caravan for side trips and sight-seeing within country.

- We will start in Asia, probably Japan, Korea, China, SE Asia, South Pacific Islands, etc. Then on to Oz, then India, the Middle East, and Africa.  Then Europe then the Caribbean and South America.

Cheers,
-Chris.

Yes, I was intrigued by that too, and have written up all the legs in a spreadsheet, ready to begin the journey!

Not a bad idea! Might attempt to do that myself.

Also a FSEconomy player here. A few years back, I wrote a series of posts on their forum called "Australia to Canada in a Cessna 152" or something fairly similar. (If you are a FSEconomy member, I encourage you to go have a read there, it was a lot of fun and others seemed to enjoy it as well!)

The premise of the series was a fiction story about a pilot picking up a Cessna 152 out of Australia and bringing it to Canada.  As it was going to be a long flight, (real time, real weather, etc) I decided to entertain myself by looking up the areas I was flying to or through, and write up a made up story about the trip, based on real locations, real towns, real hotels/restaurants, etc.  It was one of the most entertaining thing (for myself) I had ever done while flying.  Not only was I seeing areas I had never seen before, but it allowed me an opportunity to dig into the history of many cities/countries, and learn from other places that way.

I plan to do something similar when I get the sim. (I also pre-purchased it the same day it became available).  It will most likely not be FSEconomy based, so the story will be posted on my personal website instead.  I will go from A to B and write up a story along the way.

I like flying low and slow.  The biggest excitement for me in this new FS release is really the opportunity to see our beautiful (mostly) planet as it is, and not from "made up" scenery. And I really want to take the time to explore it, admire it, get surprised by things I might come across, as small as they may be, and try to learn about as many places as I can.  Since I can't afford to fly all over the world in real life, this will be as good as it gets.

There will be no teleportation, unless I need to jump over an ocean and a small plane can't do it.  So I will definitely get to see a lot of things, and will need to do a fair bit of planning.
