Cannot find an .exe file for MSFS2020

Featured Replies

What is relevant is whether you purchased the Store version or the Steam version.

For the most part the Store version is hidden on whatever drive you installed the sim to in a locked WindowsApp folder that only TrustedInstaller has permission or owner to.  If you try to take ownership of that folder you could and probably will break something in it.

On the Alpha and Beta team builds Microsoft and Asobo only installed the WindowsApp folder on the C drive.  Now with the release version they are putting symbolic links on the C drive to whatever drive you have installed the sim.

But again that is all irrelevant because sometimes with the right amount of holding your tongue the right way you can see the Store version EXE file that is 251.21 mb in size but good luck doing anything with it.

I have not tested fully yet but it may appear that you can point whatever app you need to the C:\users\username\appdata\local\microsoft\windowsapps folder where the filesize for FlightSimulator, exe is 0 bytes and it may recognize it, but for the most part I use FSUIPC (paid version, always have for Dowsen's app) to launch the sim anyway.

When I get a URL for the screenshots I have I will upload them.

That WpSystem location will get you to the localstate, localcache and other folders and files for the configs.

Can someone say what a bloody mess all this is, my recommendation purchase the Steam version.

I have the MS store version and have installed the sim to my D drive. And There use to be a way to right click on the MSFS icon and go to properties, and then click "Open File Location" and it took you directly to the directory with FlightSimulator.exe in it. But not sure why I don't have that option anymore. I was able to do this before. Not sure if they took the feature out with the latest Windows 10 update or what. As long as you know the absolute path to the EXE and paste that into Explorer, it will take you there.

Does anyone know the absolute path?

Such a frustrating problem when it shouldn't be this complicated to locate the game's exe file. Sigh. I need to add the game's exe file to my logitech mouse hub, but since I can't find the exe, I'm unable to use this feature.

I have bought the DVD version, but think i installed the downloaded one, and directed the whole download to a folder on a second gaming SSD drive.

Alas i still need DVD #1 to start the game (a trick is to use a WinCDemu that emulated an extra CDrom pointing to a ISO from that CD on any drive  somewhere). Set this emulated CD drive to reload after re-boot BTW.

But i found the FlightSimulator.exe here: C:\Program Files\WindowsApp\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.20.6.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

It was probably set there by running the setup file on the first DVD (#1 out of 10).

ADDED, use 'takeownership' of you need to access it with NVDIA control panel to fix stuttering as i had to.

(only for higher ended GTX2080 GPUs and above: set supersampling to 8x in antaliasing transparancy)

ADDED 2: You'll have to set permissions for the windowsapps folder to acces it in NVDIA controlpanel, and select the whole folder above instead of only the flightsimulator.exe file to apply these aliassing settings ...
