October 26, 200619 yr Is it my imagination? But, FS X seems to run smoother at lower Frame Rates than FS 9. My FPS rarely go over 10. No stuttering. I have the Autogen and Scenery sliders maxed out. FPS locked at 20.The only change I made was to rename the default.xml.I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering if others have noticed this.My test flight is from KORD to downtown Chicago. Flying the Baron 58My System Specs:P4 3.6 with 3GB Ram ATI 600X with 256MB memory. Thanks in advance to all who reply.Bill
October 26, 200619 yr Hi Bill,I think many others have made the same observation. For whatever reason, FSX tends to provide a more satisfying experience at a given frame rate than FS9 at the same frame rate.-Rick----------- My System -----------P4 @ 2.53 GHz / 1GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce 6800XT, 256MB / Windows XP Home
October 26, 200619 yr I think you will find that you have the same experience as me. If you display the directx FPS using something like FRAPS or ATI Tray Tools then you may see that you are actually at 20 FPS and FSX is reporting 10. That is what is happening on my system. Mine is showing 16 FSX and 30 FPS when using FRAPS or ATT.Bruce

October 26, 200619 yr Thanks Guys.I'll have to try those other Frame Rate programs.I feel better now. I thought it was my imagination. Yes, I usually ignored FPS when I was flying in FS 9. But just had to see what was going on in FS X.Regards.Bill
October 26, 200619 yr I agree. The only stutters I get are when taxiing around detailed airports.I can live with that till I get a new machine with Vista and Directx 10.That won't be till this time next year since they seem to be not avail till March and I don't use FS much when warm weather hits.I have only P4 2.4 but with 256 video and 1.5 ram.I start out with medium settings and then change to higher ones once in the air.Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
October 26, 200619 yr Not sure why it would be happening on your system. I see FRAPS and FS framerates are almost identical. ce
October 26, 200619 yr Hi,I Have to agree... I have a reasonable autogen setup, mesh, scenery quality AI Maxed.yet I can still do a smooth hover taxi at about 5 feet in the Jetranger at KMDW.at no time does the FPS go into double figures. But het I don't care - it looks good and feels good (mind you I would hate to imagine what would happen to the framerate when I get my KORD operating to capacity!)Anyone know of an idiots guide to the installation of the Traffic Toolbox SDK?cheersIan
October 26, 200619 yr I saw an article on one of the FS developers' blog sites that might be the answer. In FSX, the priority of which textures load first has been changed. The idea was to reduce the stutters and blurries. The end result is that (as we've noticed) FSX operates smoother at lower framerates. I apologize for not having the URL to share but I stumbled across it this morning and didn't bookmark it.
October 26, 200619 yr We spent a decent amount of effort on reducing stutters in FSX, so yes it's not all in your head. :)
October 26, 200619 yr We better keep this a secret...-it is obvious many just don't believe it even though lots of us have been saying this. :-)http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

October 26, 200619 yr Are you running full screen or windowed. In window mode they are the same for me and feel it. In full screen the feel is far better than the FSX displayed frame rate.In FS9 the frame rates agree in both full screen and windowed mode.Bruce
