FSX addon aircraft in fs 2020?

Featured Replies

Its an FSX simobject and you can convert it.. can't guarantee it will convert properly....

If you have discord you can go here:https://discord.gg/epmbyyx   MSFS SDK channel where you can find out how to do that.

Good Luck..in channel as: Carolina Number 1

I'm wanting the DG Flugzeugbau DG-808S  Glider. I could get it working for sure. I'm a CFI-G instructor and would like get something into MSFS 2020.

As MSFS for now has no thermals modeled and no towplane is available, you would have to slew the aircraft into some altitude and then glide down. At best, you could find some ridge lift that keeps you soaring. IMHO not worth the trouble.

the default f18 in fsx works in msfs community folder, some dude over at steam posted this but he hasn't tried payware fsx yet.

If you consider "working" something with all MFD gauges blank, and the rest of the analog ones frozen, because they were both controlled by a C++ 32 .DLL module that has no chance to work in MSFS without an extensive rewrite starting from the source code.

Years ago, I uploaded an FSX add-on "FM2 Wildcat and Escort Carrier Group" (plus update) to this forum.

I was able to get MSFS2020 to recognize the FM2 aircraft by creating a directory in Community named FM2, with the subdirectory SimObjects with the subdirectory Airplanes.  I saved the FM2 add-on files to the Airplanes subsubdirectory.  In the first level FM2 directory, I added the following files: layout.json and manifest.json.  The latter file did not appear to contain a lot of critical information.  I used notepad to edit the file and entered information for the title, the manufacturer and the creator.  For package_version and minimum_game_version, I entered "1".  The layout.json file contains file locations for the manifest.json file and all the FM2 files (except for the FM2.cab instrument file, which I assume is incompatible).  I also had to enter the file size for each file.  For the dates, I just left them at 132429852000000000 (whatever that means).

I ran MSFS2020 and I was able to select the aircraft in the directory and to fly the plane.  The only problem (and a big one) is that all the transparent textures - including the prop, the windows and the HUD were non-transparent and white.  Is there any way to fix this?

(Years ago, I also uploading some fixes to an FS9 Avenger aircraft to make it compatible with FSX.  As I recall, one of the problems was that transparent textures were not displaying properly in FSX.  So I substituted some bmp files which fixed the problem for FSX.)

Anyone know if the Embraer Phenom P100 or P300 from FSX work ?

SAR Pilot. Flight Sim'ing since the beginning.

I'm not sure how to edit my post above.  I discovered the problem with the prop texture was that I had a typo in the layout.json file.  So that is fixed.  However, the the canopy glass (external view) and the HUD (internal view) are still not transparent.
