August 22, 20205 yr I just took off from Munich. Ugly weather there. Rain with heavy cloud. Going to Cairo which surely will be blue skies....might fly around the pyramids before I land.

Did you not give ATC a number for THEM to call?? Or doesn't the system work like that? Glad you're here to relate the story. I like the idea of scary weather in the sim - looking at approaching CBs and storms from the ground IRL sometimes gives me the shivers... Psychologically I'd want to avoid them in the sim anyway. Psychologically I'd want to avoid them in the sim anyway. That incident happened a very long time ago, way before cell phones and such. The a/c id and the flight plan would have made it easy for the authorities to find me. I did tell the attorney the story. He owned the plane and is wife onboard was one of my PPL students. Another quickie, while flying alone in my C150 just having fun practicing stall recoveries and unusual attitudes, I got too close to a thunderstorm and got sucked into it. The windows all frosted over with ice and I was thrown out the side in the neighborhood of 15,000 feet. The engine was dead, with a stopped prop and it was eerie quiet up there - nothing but my heart beat pounding in my ears. It takes longer than you think to get down to the basic O2 level quickly in a small Cessna, so I decided the fastest way down was a tight spin. That worked but I almost got sucked into the mass a second time. I made a beeline for the airport and sat in the plane until I thought my legs would support me to walk to my car. Also a true story.
