A320 autopilot what's wrong?

Featured Replies

So I load up a A320neo at the end of my favorite runway, not destination set. I apply full power and take off. I set autopilot 1 on and try set my altitude and heading.

I get to 5,000ft and level out.

I set my altitude to 34,000ft which stays.

I set my vertical speed to +1,800ft/m but it keeps clearing after a few seconds.

I set my heading to X but it clears after a few seconds.

What the heck am I doing wrong??

Are you pushing the knobs after selected heading and v/s?

That said, I do find it buggy. Sometimes it simply doesn't work. Really annoying and autopilot issues were the first complaints here I think.

I have also seen the autopilot override vertical speed modes and revert to climb/descent, I am not an airbus pilot so I am unsure what is normal and what is not.

In practical terms, you cannot leave the autopilot by itself for too long like you would do for example on PMDG or Aerosoft aircraft, not on Managed mode, not in ALT/VS/Others.

It may also, for example, on ascent or descent bust the altitude you set on the FCU.

i find you have to set the altitude, hit 'managed altitude' or 'selected altitude' mode then V/S for V/S to work

Ive just tried a flight in the airbus from EGGP to EGPH my old training route in the Aerosoft A320.

All went well until just short of ESKDO, I was descending to FL60 as required by ATC, so not managed by FMC, when I started drifting to the left away from the waypoints indicated on ND . Heading and speed were still on managed (as far as I am aware, dots showing no figures) I cancelled Autopilot and FD and tried to hand fly but, it would not let me.

Crash due to severe stress, seems to be a good basic model though, hoping we get an aerosoft or similar soon

Maybe this video can give you some help:
