Blog, Youtube, or Twitch?

Hi All.

Slightly off topic but bear with me.

I'm planning on (probably along with a lot of people) having a bimble around the World; this sim has inspired me to experience the world in all it's glory.

My wife suggested that I should Youtube it but I'm not sure what the your thoughts are? I realise that watching a full 2hr flight might not be the most exciting thing to watch in the world and thinking that either a Youtube video with highlights from the leg or a blog with pictures might be the best? If I go the Youtube route, what capture software do people recommend?

I'm planning on flying the Diamond DA-60 on mostly VFR flights from 70nm to longer depending on geographic limitiations. I'll be flying using real weather but setting the time myself to suit what I feel like flying. My departure airport is going to be from the Diamond factory in London, Ontario.

The other slightly closer on topic is are there any people who might like to join me? It would be great to fly with other people!

I'd join you on some legs!

And I used to use OBS to record, but switched to using the built-in recorder in GeForce Experience (ShadowPlay), which is WAY better. I hear the built-in recorder for the AMD cards works also if you have AMD - that's what @Chock uses (I asked him in another thread).

Someone shared this with me to get me started with ShadowPlay (the Nvidia recorder): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVMEBONCx-E

You can see some of the videos I've recorded with it here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuhNl1CjoODTxhxQugbUaNg/videos

Great! Thanks for the links and info for ShadowPlay, i'll have a look!

It would be great to fly with people online; I've watched a few videos and I think it would be great fun! Once I get my head around sorting video recording (and ensuring I don't kill my laptop) I'll give you a shout when I'm planning on starting out!

Read this book if you've never made any videos before. I used to recommend it to the people I taught video editing to. It's an old book, but still relevant because it focuses on technique rather than technology it will show you how to do things the right way.

Thanks @Chock!

Not had much experience at all. Not flight related but this was my first video I edited and put together. Thanks for the info, will have a read.

I am just using Steam  and the official forums for my progress rtw trip. Nice of them to keep all my screenshots and blog info going 🙂  Plus maybe it might inspire one or two people to do the same 🙂  Just took off from LIPZ , Venice heading toward LFMN , Nice  Cote d'Azur / the French Riviera 🙂  Live Players, Live Traffic, Real Time Weather/Time Live, No cheats . Started a week ago in Western NC. Plane just now showing 57.8 hours on inside panel. Steam hours 93, So not sure where them lost hours went.

Side question for you or others - have you found that live players/multiplayer hits CPU as hard as AI/Live traffic?

May I suggest streaming it on YouTube (instead of Twitch)? That way your VOD's are on YouTube afterwards forever (instead of the time-limited version on Twitch) for those who missed your streams. This sounds like a fantastic binge-watch series.

I turned MP things on just a few days ago so I didn't see what it was like going through the NE of the US, So far though I have not seen any preformance issues. ofc being in southern Europe atm and the time maybe not many people are on. In this mode you can't change anything , So unless they are flying real world / time / weather / all live then you will not see them.

Not sure what time zone you are in or when / where you will be flying but you will if you go live/real MP  half the world will be in the dark at some point 🙂  I will stream my last two hours to finish off this trip. Flying through the Appalachian Mountains back to Asheville maybe will have more eye candy than my current all night flying lol. Although some of the sun rise have just been mind blowing.

Hopefully we'll catch up at some point, somewhere 🙂

My outline plan at the moment is to stream/video:

  • With the Diamond DA-60 - Tail number N628DC (real world reg)
  • Plan on weights/balance for two people aboard
  • Use real weather, online, but with sim-times that match how I'm feeling.
For example when I eventually make it to the other side of world to the UK I'm not continually flying in darkness.
  • Fly in hops of around 70nm to 900nm in length (ish)
  • Plan the flights using Navigraph charts, Bing/Google maps, and reference materials (https://flightloc.com/map) about places to make it interesting
  • I won't be getting too hung up about flying the shortest route, I want to experience the world! So not only West going but a lot of detours to intereting places.

🙂
