Garmin G3X - Load/Activate Approach - Problem

Featured Replies

I mentioned this before, but was hoping someone has a solution to this bug or pilot error.

ATC tells me, for example, to expect ILS 24 bla bla bla. I select the appropriate approach, then load/activate the approach. Plane makes a 180 and heads back to the last waypoint, then does another 180 and continues to fly the route. What am I doing wrong?

Exactly the same happened to me when I tried loading it in the air, trying to go direct to the next waypoint caused a ctd. Next flight I did was to Chambery so I knew I was going to 18L - so added it in at start of flight and it was fine.

Certainly needs some work...

Same here. Wants to go back to previous waypoint before conducting approach. Workround is to load approach before flight.

Yup - this.  I started using that workaround as well.  It makes it tricky if you get an approach from ATC that is different than what you were expecting, you have to really be ahead of things.  I am hoping this is included in what they ID'd in the "known issues" list with regard to AP and Garmin functionality.

This is why I select an approach from the drop down menu during flight planning. Not particularly realistic, but it makes ATC behavior more predictable.

I just explained that in my other thread, there's no way to "activate vectors to final" so if you do an IFR put in the arrival and approach if not ATC/GPS will have you redo the entire approach.
