Getting my sim dialed in

Featured Replies

MSFStuning.jpegI am getting my sim running the way I like.

It is great to have the uninterrupted view (not airplane and no panel) straight ahead.

And it is cool the way you can place the glass displays on a second monitor as well as all the settings.

The 3 top monitors are using NVIDIA Surround, and it is not bad if you don't zoom out much. This is a screen setup that makes landings and VFR flying a joy.

I have been mapping my custom switches/rotary encoders and pots using Bodnar Bords as well as lots of peripherals  yokes and joysticks throttle quads etc.

I feel it is all coming together very well.

Soon I hope to have AirManager running on the touchscreen (the bottom monitor).

I have also found for me anything above 24 fps is fine. This is not a fast moving game, unless you do something wrong. Flying is supposed to be smooth.

I have only launched Xplane once since installing MSFS 2020. I will still use it of course. But the VFR in this new sim is fantastic with no added Ortho. The Garmin take a bit of getting used to but they work OK, just different than I am used to. So serious IFR at this point will be in Xplane. I am sure in time MSFS will catch up in IFR as well.

Great way to spend a rainy Saturday, flying around a sunny Ireland.

Here is a photo of my setup. If you blow it up, you can see I have labeled a lot of my controls (masking tape) to make it easier to assign in the controls setup. It is different than XP but really works just as well, even wit unsupported peripherals.

Very cool pit you have. I like sharing these type of pit , pics with my wife just to plant a seed. Maybe one day she will let me do something like this 🙂

i7-8600k @ 3.70 GHz  16.0 GB Ram OS Win 10-64 bit    Geforce GTX 1070

I've never done the multiple monitor thing, I just use a projector to project a 110" screen. The disadvantage to my setup is if i want to actually "Sim", i have to bring a table in and set it up. I generally just fly from the recliner with a keyboard + mouse + joystick. The best setups are probably the 3 projector setups with the curved multiple screens, but that is a lot of heat generated in a room, and a lot of work, plus you lose the room for other activities.

Awesome setup, working on a similar one! Thanks for showing!

One question: How did you get the forward view without cockpit/panel, for some reason I can not figure it out, still learning the camera system.

Thanks for any input!

Cheers.

Very cool @177B I don't think I'll ever have a setup like that. I'll probably have to pour all my funds into a RTX 3090 as I've already bought the HP Reverb G2...

I found this video useful if you want to get your performance dialed in too (unless you are planning on the RTX 3090 also! 🙂)

I use arrow keys to move forward and up in cockpit view until you just see out over the cowling, then I save that as custom view and assign it to a button on my yoke.

To move forward is right-Alt up-arrow, back is right-Alt down arrow.

Got you! Thanks so much! Good luck with your build!
