Cessna 172 :: Instruments (Garmin) suddenly shut down ...

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

after many hours of practicing i switched from Cessna 152 to 172. Currently i'm facing the issue of shutting down instruments (displays / Garmin) after a couple of minutes. Is this a feature (screensaver ;-)), a known bug or a low-skill-pilots mistake?

(did a quick search, found nothing matching).

Cheers

Michael.

I have in the past suffered this problem as well. It caused me to stop flying it.

Did you have the engine running and the alternators online? You may have run out of battery.

engine is running, alternators online. Garmin is up&running for the first 3-4 minutes, then shutting down. Looks like the Garmin is flashing/pulsing white afterwards.

ARGHH! in this case it seems to be my mistake. Ignition-Switch/Magnetometer was set to "Start" (honeycomb alpha controls). This seems to be a bad idea. Need to get my PPL(A) soon!

It's not your fault a real start switch will kick back to both unlike the honeycomb one,it's super easy to leave on start and suffer flat battery
