September 25, 20205 yr Hi... I have a slight dilemma that I'm hoping someone here will have some insight to.... I'm running P3Dv4.5 and all its addon's on my D: drive. My Win10 system is on my C: drive. I recently had Win10 get corrupted and had to have the C: drive wiped clean and Win10 reinstalled, while the D: drive was left alone. Obviously there are some system files that P3D puts out there as it will not run now....I get an error msg on startup that says "The license type is undefined due to an unsuccessful installation" Lorbi's Add On organizer (also installed on D) shows all of my manual addons as green, but the P3D default stuff (all the areas and base folders) are purple. I also don't see anything related to P3D in my Programs & Features area, yet the game is still there on my D: I do understand why as the new Win10 has no idea what is on D: now. I've re-downloaded the entire P3Dv4.5 install file, but am curious to know if I need to reinstall the entire thing? I would prefer not to have to reinstall all of my add-ons and just put the necessary files out to C: and am worried that a full re-install will erase all the prior work I've put into this. The full install file that I d/l from LM has 3 "install" files... Install client / install scenery / install content and then 9 cabinet files and an exe. Does anyone know what the correct process for an issue like this would be? Am I doomed to a long weekend of reinstalling everything, or is there a quicker way to tell Win10 that P3D is on D:? I really appreciate any help. Thanks Chris
September 25, 20205 yr The short answer is that you're pretty much doomed to having to do a complete rebuild. It's not just an issue of relocating the add-ons--the registry that contained all of the license and/or configuration info for many of your programs--P3D foremost amongst them--was lost when you wiped your old OS installation. So, that said, anything you had installed with license or configuration information stored in the registry will need to be reinstalled. Some of those programs, like P3D, may use online licensing and registration servers that are going to block you from reinstalling until you contact the developer and get the license reset in their server. That would include P3D itself, and addons from PMDG, FSL, FSPS etc. You may want to copy your existing D drive to an external drive if you have a lot of customizations...you can usually install using the installer and then overwrite that with your customized version afterwards. This is why you really need to do regular complete system backups...had you kept a backup image of your OS drive, you could have recovered your OS boot drive from that image and kept things intact.
