Request direct to waypoint?

No, ATC will not approve shortcuts in the approach.

Hi Dave -

That's interesting - because, when on the RNAV 19 into N14, it was vectoring me toward Robbinsville (RBV, IAF) from the west, and denied a direct-to-JULID request.

However, once I was north of JULID, it bypassed RBV and vectored me to JULID anyway.

Will it approved direct-to-IFs but not IAFs?

thanks

I believe this behavior is described over and over again in previous topics.  The key question for you is exactly when did you "activate" (not load, instead activate) the approach?  The reason for that question is not to question you about some mistake, but instead just to verify when you executed that step, and in which aircraft model.  The default GPS has some issues....  So only looking to verify.

I don't quite remember, but it was likely when I was still west of KPHL (probably about 20-25 miles)... but to clarify, I'm using X-Plane 11.

Also, I searched "direct to waypoint" - might wanna check that out. I'm sure it's been described before. How do I find it?

Oh no! Please disregard my post.  I thought this was in the MSFS Forum.  My bad!

LOL... I know how that goes

And yeah... GPS/NAV/NAVDATA in 2020 is... uh... suspect. 😉

Once it starts vectoring, it's not going to grant any DirectTo's.  It will vector you to the IF in almost all situations.

Since I don't know your original flight plan, I can't be sure.  DirectTo will usually be approved only before you start a descent on a STAR or before you start an approach.  Most requests for DTo's to waypoints in the en-route portion of the plan will be approved.  Even short-cutting on a SID are usually approved.
