best flight planning and importing option for q400 dash 8

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Have been playing around with pfpx, simbrief, aivlasoft, skyvector etc..

What is the best way to create and import a flighplan directly into fms in majestic dash 8?

I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the possible options there are available.

Watched a video where someone uses fs commander, aivlasoft, simbrief, aurasim all together to create just 1 flight plan.... Isn't that a little too much

Thanks for your input guys!

Simbrief is - for me - the best and easiest to use (I also own PFPX but very seldom use it) and it allows transfer of your flight plan to the Majestic bird.

You also mention Aivlasoft EFB, it is not per se a flight planner and is used for a different purpose, i.e to follow your flight on the map, plan your procedures upon departure and arrival, keep your various flight-plans and check-lists on file, The file exporter/downloader of Simbrief will simply allow you to transfer your flight-plan to P3D, Aivlasoft EFB and Majestic (among many other planes) in one click, that is why it's so easy to use and efficient.

SkyVectors is a very powerful tool that can be used if you are not satisfied with the proposed flight-plan of Simbrief, you can then define your own flight-plan and copy/paste it into Simbrief that will analyse and confirm if it is OK with the current AIRAC cycle.

To summarise, Simbrief is the only flight-planning tool you need if you want to keep it simple, the others are there for complementing the process (SkyVectors) or give additional/different information (Aivlasoft EFB).

My typical flight in the Dash-8 is typically 200-300 nm. On the outside I may do a 600 nm stint.

For me, manually typing a flight plan into the Dash-8 is less than 60 seconds...possibly less time than setting up the import of a flight plan.

I do use Simbrief for all my flight planning (and setting up automatic flight plans for transoceanic flights).

Ok, thanks for your insight guys!

I shouldn't make it harder than necessary I guess 😜
