Global Mesh Scenery

Recommended Posts

Good day all,

This might seem a bit strange to ask but I am honestly confused.  I have Orbx Open LC North America and the Base Pack will adding a Global Mesh add on do anything more for me scenery wise?  or is it redundant with these two add-on?  I am mostly happy with the scenery in P3D but if adding a mesh package would improve things I am will to do so.  On the other hand I am not about wasting money on something that will not help at all.  Hope someone can stear me in the right direction.

Thanks

Tom

Mesh can be a good thing and it's very different to LC or Global Base. Personally I choose NOT to use extra mesh outside of what is included in the ORBX FTX regions as it commonly causes elevation plateaus at airports. Sure it looks better when flying high above the terrain, but where it matters to me is on final when you are close to the ground.

Orbx openLC products do not have any mesh in them.  They are an advanced application of terrain textures that provide a much better representation of the scenery than the default terrain landclasses which can look very repetitive.  It's a good product.

All Orbx products are designed to work seamlessly with Pilot's mesh products, which I have used for years and YES there is a major difference in much better rendering of mountains and hills and also it is surprising how much they add to flat plains which are actually not table top flat in most cases but have subtle undulations.  A good mesh provides this detail.  It's a must have on my P3Dv4 and v5.

You might want to check out Toposim's mesh. A must add-on for me.

Thanks all for the input.  I might try running the free-mesh first and see if it makes a difference before i drop money on a payware option.

Thanks gain for the help

Actually, the latest OpenLC release (Africa) does indeed contain a mesh component, which can be separately enabled or disabled in Orbx Central.

The Orbx regional products (e.g. Orbx Southern Alaska, Central Rocky Mountains etc) include high-res mesh.

I'm not a fan of add-on mesh.  It adds significantly to loading time, causes lots of problems with sunken or plateaued airports, and addition of mesh LOD levels makes P3D's terrain morphing/shape-shifting behavior more prevalent and obvious.

Hi I use FreemeshX and it works well in P3Dv4 and v5. I would start there first.

Once installed I would play around with the Mesh Resolution and Tessellation Factor settings to enhance the detail shown in mountainous terrain for example. This will enable you to determine if your system can handle this.

If this is working, you can then explore some of the payware mesh products that potentially can offer you more.
