P3D is my new FS9 :) (V4.5)

Featured Replies

I mean that as the highest compliment!!   It took me YEARS to convert from FS9 to a newer platform, I actually skipped FSX and early P3D versions because FS9.xxxx was my sim nirvana.  Butter smooth with all my add-ons, scenery, PMDG and even I think it was the PSS777?  Could that be right?  I was able to run everything with 100%AI and it was awesome...  One of my favorite flights was KEWR-LLBG leaving NYC at night (remember Aerosoft NYC LOL) and approaching the Tel Aviv coastline 10 hours later.

Who knows how many years later and I just took off from DD KEWR at night with all my add-ons in the QW787 using my OpenCockpits Modules in the pouring rain using AIG-OCI and AILRP experiencing the most amazing traffic experience with strobes illuminating the tarmac, sounds, contrails in the thick mist and departed into the soup only getting peaks of the streetlights below as I left the East Coast of the US behind...   4,900 miles and ~9 hours from now I should be approaching LLBG but along the way I will see the sunrise over the Atlantic, Lands End, Jersey (the original)  Paris, Zurich, the Alps, the gold coast, Turkey, and then start my descent over the Med as I pass Cyprus...  I've done this flight twice now with the new LLBG scenery and yep, P3D is my new FS9 in the best way possible!

Combine that with the December release of the 20gb 3080 and 16gb 3070 and bring on V5!  I will fully support it as I agree it's going to take time for MSFS to get to where P3DFS9Nirvana is now, if LM can provide a Google streaming equivalent of what MSFS is doing with Bing I wouldn't really need anything else but I'm also rooting for MSFS in case LM don't so that one day I can have everything I described above in the updated visual world MSFS provides.

I know the feeling, Paul. I followed a similar road, but I took a year-long stop in FSX-SE, before taking the plunge last week to P3D4.5. Since I use the laptop in my signature, GPU is too weak for v5. What convinced me of the switch was this:

- Pushback radius as tight as FS9.
- VC does not move at turns! My VC eyepoint is as fixed as it was in FS9.
- Blurries: the only way I could generate them was using the default F-16 at 550 knots.. over Manhattan!
- Water... I only have default water in P3D4.5, but can´t stop looking at it. It's not the color, but the texture.

Now I don't want to return to FSX-SE; something does not feel right.

Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.

Congrats for the jum from FS9 to P3D mate!

From one nirvana to another 😉

FS2024

I did the simular thing from FS9 stright to P4D as well. while I got FSX from demo and also brought FSXSE and XP11...

I still go back to FS9 occasionally, for TM732, FT+50N 73C,RFP742, PMDG MD11 and PT154... but it's hard to maintain both platform, they can't share almost everything, like I bought a new scenery that's perfect for 733.. but only for P4D then....
