Very sorry to hear about your loss Noel, stay strong and stay safe!

It's very hard when the COVID hits close to home, it changes your perspective entirely. My thoughts are with you.

I think for  person like my brother who had been deteriorating in a nursing home for months from several underlying factors testing positive for Covid-19 was a blessing.  It was something akin to assisted suicide.  Had he not contracted the virus he would have spent months with his cancer and dementia getting worse and being fed painkillers.  Add to that the hospital environment where you are not allowed visitors.  The nursing home has been locked down since this thing started so I hadn't seen my brother in months.  We talked on the phone but that's not the same as face to face conversations.

Bill W mentioned his father was in a nursing home with dementia for 10 years.  That's like a prison sentence.

Not for me.  Several years ago when wasn't able to tramp in the woods and fields hunt anymore I sold all of my guns save one.  I kept my Glock as a house gun.  If I get some form of cancer or I start falling into dementia and get to the point where I have to go to a nursing home I will use the Glock on myself.

I think it's high time that assisted suicide become legal for those who become terminally incapacitated.  The job a bullet can do in a millisecond I feel is much better than days of pain medication.

The picture below is from the family scrap book and is the one I carry around now to remind myself of how it all started.  It was taken in 1942 when I was 9 years old and my brother was 7.  It was on a Sunday when I made my First Communion.  It's my favorite picture of my brother and I.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.
