November 22, 20205 yr Little supply but which one for P3D . 3080 worries me low vram . 6800 more vram lower speed vram. Poor raytacing support for other games and AMD worries me. 3090 has everything but christ what a price jump. I can get 3090 now the other two sometime maybe. Money is there for it but can I justify it . Please dont answer me with wait for 3080ti it does not exist yet and then there will be 4900ti with 64gig vram to wait for then. Todays cards only for disscussion. Colin hodds I7 9700K,nvidia 3090 ,ssd ,32gig 3200mhz ram ,win10,prep3d

November 22, 20205 yr Personally, I’m waiting for the 6900xt but getting one this year seems unlikely looking at recent card releases! November 22, 20205 yr I think 10GB of VRAM on the 3080 is a showstopper given the trend with DX12 applications. Can't speak to the 6900xt, but my general experience does not favor it--nobody in my inner circle of sim buddies has had good luck with any AMD GPU for flight simming. What I can speak to: I just moved up from a 2080Ti to the 3090, and its performance is superb in P3Dv5. At 4K resolution, it'll hold 30Hz locked with 4xSSAA and dynamic lighting at night. 8xSSAA with shadows and 6 layers of clouds in daytime. And with 24GB of VRAM, that's no longer a limiting factor. It is pricey. But the cutting edge always is. To put it in perspective, it's about three-fourths the cost of a set of tires for my last BMW. I'll get way more use out of this card than I did those tires... November 22, 20205 yr Hmm, in my perspective, it is the equivalent of just over three sets of tyres for my wife's Vauxhall and out of the question. Then so is a 4k monitor, so the RX 6800 XT with its 16GB looks very tempting as a future update for my 2k monitors, just as long as they do eventually become available. In the UK, the entire 30 series is virtually unobtainable and the Radeon is little more than a dream of the future.

All the bench marking does not take in to account the Vram limit especially in VR with high SS levels were the performance is going to continue past 10gig . Seeing half life Alyx with 200% SS pushing 12 gig of VRam sealed it . Yes a 20gig 3080 would be nice but it is not here yet and prices not confirmed . Feel I have done a bit of future proofing wont get the full benefit until M/B upgrade but have a pretty good processor two years old and loads plenty of Ram and luckily I had the budget for it.
