Don't be afraid to like FSX....

Featured Replies

I've been trying to stay above the fray on this one and I hesitate to even post this because just throwing my hat in the ring, if ever so briefly, will only encourage more of the same. BUT, it has been difficult to watch thread after thread scroll down the page and witness people who are enjoying FSX, for whatever reasons, be assailed by those that aren't enjoying FSX. We get it: you don't like it. You have FS9 + your hundreds of dollars of mods (just like me) and we really are fine with that. But please, don't tell me I'm not enjoying FSX. Don't tell me that 15 or 20 or 25 FPS isn't satisfactory for me. Don't tell me that I have hardware that doesn't exist yet. Don't tell me that my perceptions and feelings about FSX are invalid.Basically, don't rain on my personal parade.I like FSX and I've been pretty clear about that. It runs great on MY system, looks great on MY system, and I feel is a major improvement over FS9 based on MY direct observations and comparisons. Does it do everything well? No, certainly not. Do I wish for improvements in some areas? Absolutely. I could go on and on, but basically my message is that I'm tired of seeing posts that are so sarcastic and condescending to those of us that are enjoying FSX, as if we are somehow blind to the issues that are out there. Obviously we have worked through OUR issues and have reached what we consider acceptable solutions. I was happy with FSX out of the box, and I've grown happier with a few tweaks (that took minutes, not weeks or months to do). I pretty much know which posts to bother reading and which not to continue reading based on the first few sentences of the original topic. The people with criticism of Aces or Microsoft that are able to put together a post with genuine, tactfully language that contributes to the discussion of problems and solutions are great. I have no problems with reasoned logic that is presented with a reasonable attitude. Some of the posts in the past few weeks have just been over-the-top ridiculous though and I'm embarassed for the community to be seen in such a light. Of course, it is a free country and I realize different people approach issues using various and highly personalized styles, so it isn't surprising to see such a range of effective and ineffective communication. But to summarize, if you are having fun with FSX, don't sweat the belittling comments and snide remarks, you are having fun and you don't have to justify that to anyone. On the flip side, embrace the genuine criticism and thoughtful comments and recognize that all is not perfect with the FSX world and there are considerable issues that would really make this gem shine brighter. And don't feel the need to make a "choice" between FS9 and FSX as if you could never go back or never alternate between your old and new installs. Just some non-specific thoughts by a relatively "old-hand" in this simming hobby...Chris "BeachAV8R" Frishmuth

Agree a post dead on target. :)

enjoy your default aircraft, default scenery, sparse custom AI if your computer can even handle it, not to mention the awful landclass and data for outside the coverage area of N America and Western Europe!FSX is going to be great in a few years, hopefully. Until then, don't pick on people who stick with FS9 and who are too upset at all the complete hype that came for FSX but it never lived up to it

Indeed. What little I have to add is this reminds me so much of the Oblivion launch it is silly. At the time of launch critics claimed the program was bloated and was a far departure from previous installments. It has since died down considerably, but FSX and its community are similar in some respects. For me FSX continues to be the best FS game I have yet used, it actually brings FUN to GA flying.

Not to be rude Alex, but did you read his post at all? He didn't pick on FS9 users, he picked on the belittling crap that has been going on throughout this forum. It seems like every post where someone is enjoying FSX is met with comments like "Enjoy your 14 FPS and crappy ATC." What the #### is that? What possess people to act so childish about a game?

Chris-also thanks for your recomendation for trackerir4. I had used the 3d glasses from years ago which I quickly discarded and a program called cam 2 pan which while interesting was too slow to be useful. Therefore I had been reluctant to make the move. After your review of it I figured it must be good-I ordered one-and it really rocks in fsx. Between it, and all the new features of fsx I really can't remember having such a blast with a new sim. ...and Valkyrie321-we still gotta take that shared cockpit Alaska tour in the Goose-looking forward to it!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Chris,Great post and great TrackIR 4 video. After watching it, I ordered one and can't wait to set it up tonight. You've probably posted this before but if you don't mind, can you share which tweaks you're using and the specs for the system you're running FSX on.Thanks in advance.

Alex, your post above is out of line, and your previous posts have attracted our attention for the same reason. Throttle it back.

This is just a hunch.. There are more people such as yourself criticisng folks who are rightly (IMO) complaining about the poor performance of FSX than those folks complaining about newbies who are perfectly happy with their new found default FSX.;)MAnny

Part V of this piece I wrote has plenty of FSX - FS9 comparison shots...some were examples of unflyable, dense scenery and other were fluid as glass and show the huge difference and superior scenery, landclass, and data across the entire world:http://www.simhq.com/_air7/air_263a.html>FSX is going to be great in a few years, hopefully. The original author...attacks people...and then someone reacts....and then he goes on to "prove" that he was right all along. A Self fulfilling prophesy.I should apologize for not staying above the fray. Threads such as these are adhominem attacks... I should have just skimmed on by.Manny

What I find ironic is that the people who are generally the ones that the author is talking about generally seem to be the ones annoyed with this post. The OP mentions he doesn't mind discussion for legitimate issues, but despises belittling.Azaming, the hmuan mnid raeds waht it wtans to raed.
