Atlantic Flight Plans

Featured Replies

I see that MS hasen't fixed the problem with the Flight Planner and Atlantic crossings. I tried to make a Flight Plan from JFK to Heathrow and the planner routed me from JFK to Alaska then across Canada to Heathrow. We had the same problems with the last few versions of FS. Anytime I tried to make an Atlantic crossing I had to do it manually or use FS Navigator. How could they miss this problem? I guess they were to busy changing all the things that worked right in the first place to look at an ongoing problem.RichardS

Your FS is correct, transatlantic flight DO go north, via Canada. but not Alaska?!? ... They fly over north-eastern corner.

"Your FS is correct, transatlantic flight DO go north, via Canada. but not Alaska?!? ... They fly over north-eastern corner."Please read the post properly.FS is NOT correct as stated in the first post. He said it routed via Alaska then Canada! As you say they fly over the north east corner, which is the correct route. So why does FS route to alaska first, as it did in FS2004?RegardsZlaned :-spacecraft

Yes, the Nats are still missing...Nevertheless, in FSX you can change waypoints manually directly from the map view, so I suggest to do it that way and place them over the Atlantic at relatively correct places, at least until there is some new 3rd party flight planner available.

A kind soul has written the waypoints in for all of us Atlantic flyers - check out the file library for it. Update - Andrew Brown is the hero of the hour, grab the file for both Fs9 + X from :- http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=92835

Did you do a GPS routing? If you did not, that is the problem.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Rhett,I should be able to use the same high level IFR setting I use for all my other flight plans. I invite you to try to make a plan from the East Coast of the US to anywhere in Europe this way and see what you get. I know there are ways around this problem, but why should we have to resort to work arounds when they should fix the errors in the program so that FS does it right.RichardS

Well said!

Maybe you mean Jet airway IFR. Or Victor Airway IFR?For transatlantic, I have always used GPS IFR flight plan and it works perfectly. And if I need to modify it using the North Atlantic tracks I can.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Not go via Alaska!Once again, MS has let us down! This should have been sorted for FSX!Zlaned

ACES did not "miss" the flight planner issue. Neither did the beta testers.Unfortunately, design choices had to be made, and there wasn't time to finish the revamped flight planner. They are aware of the problem, and they want to get it fixed too.Nick

I don't use the default FS2k2 flight planner although I do believe it is possible to edit your route so that it is more like real life - and not just accept what the planner puts in. The above statement is taken from a post dated June 4th 2002. So Nick, I guess four and a half years is not enough time to fix the problem. Oh well, we live in hope for the next version to get it right!Shug.BTW try using the flight planner to plot a VOR to VOR flight from Mombasa, Kenya to Khartoum, Sudan. I can't believe anyone would fly that route for real!!

May all your landings be safe ones!

Adding a few waypoints and mending some Airways in the UK and I've gathered most of the data for the whole of Canada (my Virtual Home) at the moment, takes a lot of checking out / testing though.Andrew Brownhttp://status.ivao.aero/192029.png

Shug,That is my point exactly. This has been an ongoing problem that I guess MS doesn't feel is important enough to fix. It seems to me that a correctly working Flight Planner should one of the first items to fix. Sometimes I think that MS relies on 3rd party designers to bring out addons to correct their problems a little too much. RichardS

>>You can have a Direct routing GPS, a VOR to VOR low level>flight, and a VOR to VOR high level flight.>What you can do is, select a GPS routing. This will give you a Great Circle route from KJFK to EGLL, for example. You don't want a GC routing, but you are going to modify it to correspond to a North Atlantic track. Then, you get out your source of North Atlantic Track information, and you add the appropriate waypoints to start the track. That's how a person can do it.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian
