3080ftw3 + 10900k + g2 - VR not fully smooth, rift s issues

Featured Replies

I’m coming from using xp11 + VR without much issue, though using 3jfps to get around any stutters.
For me i find that anything without reprojection isnt fluid or smooth in either sim.

I’ve followed all the tips and guides out there for the G2 + openXR. I’ve played with in sim % on render scale and combinations with openXR scaling, both on and off.

Sure to an extent if you turn up render scaling and other graphic options in sim and set openxr to 50% with reprojection Off, it somewhat works, but its not fluid like when the sim is able to maintain 30 fps with reprojection On.

It has moments of fluidity with reprojection on, hovering 27-30 fps depending on what you are flying in and what areas you are flying above, thats great, but that leads to motion sickness feeling for all the times it dips below 30 fps.

So im at a stopping point, unless i can find a tweak to keep it consistently 30 fps and reprojection on.
I’ve tried lowering sim settings to the “low” setting to compensate, just to see if the sim would remain fluid, but nothing i’ve tried maintains this, not even in more “rural” areas and in the c172 with g1000.

Thats been my experience so far, i also dont think if i switch back to my rift S or maybe try the G2 with steamvr it would be any different (though i havent looked into how you switch to steamvr as of yet).
Many say vr is fine, but i think thats a subjective "fine".

Im guessing the magic bullet just doesnt exist at this point, but if anyone has any tips that would be great.

One thing i also find is that even if getting 30-45 fps with motion reprojection on, it stutters too, not as bad but it does. I guess because the frame rate is fluctuating from 30-45 in general. I’ve tried locking the frame rate to 30 but that has its own issues. If there was a similar thing to the ovr tool for xp11, then it could be locked at 30 and be fluid I believe.

Not got your horsepower, but disabling Repro for me makes all the difference - a stuttery mess with it on or auto; tolerably smooth with it disabled.  I suspect we're a hardware generation or 2 away from "fully smooth" (FSX, anyone?!) but for my part I'm very happy with the results I'm seeing.  So much of the debate of FPS/smoothness falls over because of simple subjectivity.  No accounting for taste, as they say!

certainly worth a try,

I’m getting good results with the Rift S with MFS - comparable with XP11 performance.

True it does sorta get a little more consistent with repro disabled, however, just tilting the wing and watching the ground/horizon its a blur and to me no where near as fluid in general.  It eliminates most judders but causes other issues.  Hopefully they retool things for VR to be more stable, rather than waiting those generations of hardware 🙂

Not bothering with Oculus Tray Tool at all seems to work best for me

attempted the rift S in VR but when i get in vr its more of an outside view and the screen is a mess, recentering does nothing.  I did the fov stencil, changing openvr setting in registry.

edit: perhaps an issue with oculus home, without the sim involved, suddenly the rift s home is a mess, flashing and weird shapes.  This seems to be related to making the registry change, once i put it back oculus home was fine

edit2: updated to latest beta of oculus, solved things.

I tried setting asw to 30 in the tray tool, however 30 wasnt an option only 45 or auto

all I did was opt in to Beta setting - Public Test Channel On,

super smooth MFS VR at 100+ Render Scaling,

personally, I use Oculus Tray Tool at 1.2 SS with Auto ASW,

Las Vegas FT - complex scenery - works well in VR with Rift S & with no problem  scanning/panning different views.

So I decided to give this another go (with the G2) after serious frustration of lack of smooth (smooth for me has to hit 30 fps with reprojection set to Always on).
I use a test flight in the c172 with g1000 above a less populated area, clear skies for the test, basically medium settings in the sim and 50/50 on LOD to rule things out, along with sim Render scale at 80.  In openxr i have custom render scale UNchecked (so auto) but latest preview is enabled.
One flight i can be really smooth (reprojection doing its thing, barely maintaining 30), though there are small jitters every 5 sec or so.  Then i might reboot try again and its a complete mess for no reason.
I've tried various video drivers (at the moment im on 457.51, but may roll to 456.55 (others have said these 2 might be key).  But the fact i can reboot and it go from 90% smooth to 50% smooth is odd.
Anyone else experience this oddity?

Well i just tested 456.55 and so far its nearly 99% smooth, c172 with g1000 above 9g1 near pgh, pa, clear skies test.

I havent rebooted yet though 🙂
