GTN 750/650 do not start with any plane (resolved)

Featured Replies

Hi, I need some help here:

My GTN 750/650 worked just fine, until recently.

- I upgraded my CPU;
- I updated X-Plane

And now none of my GTN devices start with any plane or if I start it from the menu. This is what I tried so far to resolve this:
1) I completely removed the GTN products: trainer + X-Plane plugins;
2) I reinstalled the plugins. (I left the trainer out as I don't use it) and verified in X-Plane they are the latest version;
3) I checked with various airplanes
> default C172 with popped out GTN 750/650 and power sources setting on 'Always on' => GTN devices remain black
> Carenado PC-12 (GTN 750 ready) => GTN does not even appear in the plane
> SF260 (integrated GTN via REP menu) => GTN appears, but does not boot while default instruments do start
4) I checked with Vulcan on and off => No difference

I've no clue what to do. In the past I could start the GTN devices from the menu and they would power up. Now nothing works anymore. So, any suggestion is appreciated!

Regards,

Taco

What version of the GTN Trainer do you have installed?

I removed the trainer when I reinstalled the plugin. I didn't use the trainer and it made no difference to my issue in X-Plane.
The trainer (most recent version according to the version check) did start-up though (before I removed it).

I'm not familiar with the XPlane architecture, but how can the GTN run without it?

- The GTN software is installed in the regular program folder;
- A X-Plane plugin is used to interface between X-Plane and the GTN software.
- The trainer is probably an interface to run the GTN software outside X-Plane. It is optional during the installation.

The X-Plane plugin runs fine, that seems not to be the problem. That is that GTN shows in the menu and the GTN menu responds to input (settings, showing and hiding the GTN, etc). Only the GTN itself remains black

If it is anything like P3D, the option to install the Trainer is there if you already have the Trainer installed - the Trainer is quite a large download and install. I think I am correct in saying that the XPlane GTN would also require the Trainer to be installed - it cannot run without it.

The issue regarding Trainer version is that I have only just read elsewhere that a new version has been released, and as far as I know the RXP isn't compatible yet.

I don't think the Trainer download gives you an option - you must download the latest version which isn't compatible yet.

I installed the trainer in the meantime but no improvement though.
What is a bit confusing though, I only installed the GTN trainer. And that is v6.7.29 while in the topic you linked they are referring to version 3.
And probably it is not the cause of my issue, as I updated the trainer because of the issues I had yesterday.

Anyway, I'll wait a week or so and hopefully this issue is resolved. Hopefully it is resolved by then.

Cheers!

That is indeed a mistake..

Also, if you upgraded your CPU and completed a fresh reinstall of the sim then make sure you uninstall both the RXP products and Garmin Trainers and reinstall using the RXP eCommerce installer from the RXP website product page.  Using an update installer will not work for a fresh system hardware or software upgrade or fresh sim install.  You need to reintroduce your licensing and the update installers do not accomplish that.  Please see the following topic:

But... failing to do this, would this result in a black screen? Or would you get the message the licence is invalid for this machine?

During the install there is an option to move the product to a new machine, I could try that.
I didn't reinstall X-Plane though, only upgraded the CPU.

Not sure there is a difference in this case....  I through experience highly suggest installing both the RXP and Garmin Trainer to the default locations.

That refers to the link between the trainer and RTX. My reply you quote refer to is the suggestion that a hardware upgrade requires a 'move to another system' and not just a reinstall basically via the update option. The installer makes a difference between the two.

??????
I went through this in late August with a new system and a reinstall of FSX SE.  Following the recommendation to use the eCommerce RXP installer and using default locations has helped several other members here over the past four months.  It does not take much time.  Perhaps 10 minutes.  It may not work in your case, but how long have you chased this issue so far?

There is another influence currently as it appears Garmin has updated the trainer and RXP has not had time to react.  So my suggestion is uninstall both RXP and the Garmin Trainer; use the RXP eCommerce installer instead of any RXP update installer; skip the routine in the RXP process to install the Garmin Trainer; and follow the links in another one or two topics here over the past two days to find the previous Garmin Trainer installation file and install it as well.

Did I mention default locations?

Yes, I was already on it. Hopefully it works.
