January 10, 20215 yr I have managed to get v5.1 and Rift S to work now. Very smooth. The trick is to use SteamVR. There's something wrong with v5.1 and oculus runtime. Very smooth with SteamVR instead and OTT to provide supersampling and ASW. I can even use Stereo now and it's smooth as butter, at least in rural areas. Will test big hub flying tomorrow. January 10, 20215 yr Author Hello Andreh. This is certainly good news! Would you say that v5.1 with Steam VR runs considerably smoother than v4.5? A few questions: - is it possible to run the Rift S straight away with steam VR in P3D v5.1, or are there any workarounds required? - does OTT work with Steam VR and if so, is OTT required to run smooth VR in P3D v5.1? - could you post your Steam VR and OTT settings in v5.1? Thanks very much in advance and best regards, Toto

Thanks very much in advance and best regards, Toto I would say yes, performance is improved over 4.5, given similar settings. But again, this is P3D. It will still stutter over London no matter what. Running via SteamVR is very straightforward. Just chose SteamVR from the VR drop down menu in P3D when you activate VR instead Oculus. It assumes you have SteamVR installed, of course. I still use OTT for supersampling and ASW. I didn't touch anything in SteamVR, just default settings. My OTT settings are currently SS 1.3 and ASW 30hz, but we have different cards so my settings aren't that relevant for you. You should be able to push it more.
January 11, 20215 yr Author Hello Andreh. Just tried Steam VR with P3Dv5.1 and PMDG 747 / Flytampa VHHX: no improvement at all. v5.1 still stutters, even with the same OTT settings as used in v4.5. On P3Dv4.5 I get a very decent and smooth performance with VHHX and the PMDG 747. So, v5.1 still is completely useless for VR ( at least for me ). January 11, 20215 yr have you tried with older driver version? i read in the FS2020 VR forum there may be issues with 461.09 Edited January 11, 20215 yr by avhpilot Antoine v Heck --- Ryzen 5800X3D, 32Gb DDR4 RAM@1600 Mhz, RTX3090 (24GB VRAM). 2TB SSD - VR with Quest 2 via link cable

P3D is strange. I just remembered one thing I did. I set SteamVR to OpenVXr. There's a button to do that in SteamVR Settings. I'll double check my settings and see. Edit: I tried to both enable and disable motionsmoothing in SteamVR but it didn't seem to make any difference. Sorry I can't help. My v5 is smooth with SteamVR that's all I can say. It jitters a bit every once in a while but no ghosting or constant stutters like with Oculus runtime. Edited January 11, 20215 yr by andreh

Best regards, Toto IMPORTANT for ALL Steam/WMR users: You are probably also suffering from this issue posted at nvidia support forum. Take a look at this Nvidia thread with hundreds of negative feedbacks from users, using VR at higher end nvidia cards, especially using the newest drivers. A huge issue and Nvidia did find the culprit 4 days ago (after months of research). Look for details in the OP post more down at the end of his post. He updates down there! https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/402768/valve-index-missing-dropped-frames-since-nvidia-d/ And here the first feedback. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/425911/geforce-46109-game-ready-driver-feedback-thread-re/2967743/ This issue everyone has with Steam VR/WMR headests (NOT only Valve index). But the OP user has the valve index. RTX high end cards suffer more than GTX card users Only the older drivers perform better, but these are NOT usable with RTX cards! A solution should hopefully be around the corner (before the next release nvidia driver according to nvidia) Marcus Edited January 11, 20215 yr by mpo910 Regards, Marcus P.
January 11, 20215 yr Author Thank you all for the valuable information. Does the driver problem as well apply to the original Oculus Home Software, or only to steam-VR? Best regards, Toto

Best regards, Toto I honestly can't tell you for sure. But I think to we have to wait. Probably, as I understood this, the combination with STEAM VR. Marcus Regards, Marcus P.
January 14, 20215 yr @SonneOne more thing with regards to ASW and v5.1, I noticed that OTT often doesn't apply the profile I created just for P3D v 5.1, causing OTT to use the default auto ASW settings which causes stutters on my system. I deleted the profile and just changed the defaults instead. If you use an OTT profile, be aware it may not apply it. Edited January 14, 20215 yr by andreh
January 15, 20215 yr Author Hello Andreh. Thanks for your help. I‘ve setup an audio-confirmation for my OTT profile ( „game launch detected“ ) so that I can notice wether OTT applies the settings or not. Best regards, Toto
January 19, 20215 yr Nvidia will deliver hotfix driver later this week to eliminate the stutters and gain performance for high end systems with latest drivers and GPU. Here is a link to that post at Nvidia Forum https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/402768/valve-index-missing-dropped-frames-since-nvidia-d/2978995/ Marcus Regards, Marcus P.
