FSX Upcoming SP1

Recommended Posts

He's not the only one, Mr. Phil.... thanks again for your little treatise on ram latency and FS performance. I gained 8% framerate in FSX by moving from 3-3-3-8 (2T) to 2.5-3-3-8 (1T).That's not a massive improvement, but enough to matter.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

You're running in 16bit color, something no one has done since the days of 3dfx Voodoo cards... run it in 32bit and see if the FPS changes, bet it does...Don't think It will.. I changed to 16bit only to reduce the file size of the pictures for posting on the forum, 32 bit versus 16 bit on a 7900GT... no change.cheersJohn

Actually, I haven't even touched the stock cooler. I bought this:http://www.arctic-cooling.com/cpu2.php?idx=79&disc=the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 when I got my new system. It was mostly an issue with some limitations of the non-deluxe board and poor circulation in the area around my computer. It was stable, but just close enough to worry me a bit.I'm gonna try your settings now.

Hi BillYes same memory, hope you get new ram soon.To get 4 4 4 12 timings I had to change the voltage to 2.1v, had major headaches with failed overclocking and system instability until I changed the voltage.Try It and see if it helps, If there is no change with tighter latency go back to Bios default( corsair state 2.1 v is needed for4 4 4 12.Good luckJohn

What temperatures were you getting Brian?, Overclocking really pays big time in FSX as I,m sure you've seen.Better stop before you move this over to the Hardware forum:)John

Hi PhilYes it made a noticable difference for me , more so than it did on my old p4 system, it would seem that the more capable your CPU/GPU is the more benefit comes from memory latency??.CheersJohn

> As for the much>vaunted feeling of air mass in FsX imo its nothing special, I>think that is just modified air or config files on the default>planes so that they respond a little more sluggishly to input>control. You can achieve the same effect in FS9 by modifying>the aircraft config files. For example the PMDG 747 gives a>great feeling of air mass and its Fs9.>The simulated air mass has nothing to do control input, or the aircrafts reaction to controls of the moving surfaces. If you don't see it, then by all means, feel comfortable with FS9.As far as I'm concerned, it's a very noticeable and great improvement. L.Adamson

>Ok lets see If posting detail settings and a few screen shots>can help some other's.>>First thing I did was download the replacement AI from here>http://www.world-of-ai.com/ this change alone makes a HUGE>difference at busy airports, it also disables the default AI>which means no GA planes ATM.>>Next I used the Matt FOX default autogen replacement file>Then added Added these lines to FSX.cfg>TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400>FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.20>>Here's my settings:>>http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162986.jpg>http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162987.jpg>http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162988.jpg>http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162989.jpg>http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162990.jpg>>>http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162991.jpg>HEATHROW 33FPS>>http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162992.jpg>KLAX 25FPS>http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162993.jpg>KSEA 25FPS>http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162994.jpg>>Seattle with autogen at full right 25FPS>>Hope other dualcore users try these settings and see what you>get.>Also found getting the latency of the ram down to 4 4 4 12>helped.>>E6600 @3.2>Asus p5b deluxe>2gigs of Corsair800mhz Dram running at 4 4 4 12 latency@ 2.1v>Geforce 7900GTO overclocked by 10%>Creative Audigy sound card>>Hope its ok to post all these images in this forum, sometimes>they say more than words>>Cheers>John>>>>>>>>I tried your settings and I get almost the same FPS but why are you running FSX on 16bit and not 32bit? Maybe that's why the FPS have increased because in 32bit my FPS dip. I've also noticed in VC my FPS are high but in the 2D panel my FPS go down. And are you running FSX on a OC'd 6600?

Try FS9 with AS6.5The Vertical Air Simulation settings get you to 90% of what FSX does anyway.

Yeah, I should have said that I tried both 16 and 32 bit, and no difference in FPS, so 32 bit it is!Gary

Hi Tim,Thanks for stopping by and clearing up the confusion about performance benefits of the Vista/DX10 combo prior to release of the DX10 update bits. Hopefully your post gets noticed.Nick

FS2000 was, without a doubt, the worst offering MS ever made and it was a disaster for most of us. No aircraft shadows? Are you kidding me? I got better frame rates in Powerpoint!FS2002 and especially FS2004, on the other hand, were triumphs in my opinion and both ran faster than FS2000 on my systems. When we complained about FS2000 back then, and the complaints were legion, we were shouted down on this board. In that case, the 'naysayers' were right! The app was awful! But the key was that MS did nothing to help the situation. Now we have the ACES team responding to our comments and experiences and that's a wonderful thing! Hopefully they can help the problem; but there IS a BIG problem here. MS seems to recognize that fact and, thankfully, is trying to help. Thanks ACES!Brian
