Jumping up and down like a 2 year old isn't going to make a patch or anything else appear quicker. Of course I'm happy that Aces isn't happy with performance or resting on laurels. Of course I want better performance too, but that's also subjective to a degree. That was my point. In fact, in my post, I never claimed that performance is perfect or as good as it might be. What I did say is that it made me laugh looking back at old posts from 3 years ago and seeing how some of the doom and gloom posts were close to some of the current posts. It was really meant to point out to people to take things in perspective. Sorry I missed the mark and made my point poorly. -Neil
December 12, 200619 yr Well thats good news. Gives us hope. I know that the new core duo is supposed to be really fast. But I never heard anyone with full sliders getting 30FPS, 99% of the time (with FSX). We have had people with E6800 Core duo and 8800 GTX card whose FPS drops to single digits in busy terminal areas well before maximum settings.
December 12, 200619 yr Seeing as you brought it up Ray, a couple of weeks ago I was looking for the Exit to Heathrow, & only saw the Exit 14 sign at the last possible minute on the M25. It's a tiny sign, (Doesn't even mention Heathrow)& can easily be missed!! It's the most important sign in Britain!!! Could you please arrange to have this fixed??Regards,Peter Sydney Australia
December 12, 200619 yr >Ron: >>These shots were shown by Aces at WinHec and THEY said that>they were "artist renderings" of the original DX9 screenshot. >They are not software emulations. OK. That makes them even farther from 'software emulated'. Too bad the existing 'wet runways', don't translate to hydroplaning of the AC. Aces spends a lot more time on graphics enhancements than on corresponding AC effects. The contrails are still set manually to a specific height. They could have been modeled on upper air temperature, dew point and fuel flow. The wing tip condensation trails look neat, but are simply graphics with no atmospheric physics behind them. I saw them at impossible altitudes. Incidentally, the FSX atmosphere is completely hosed at higher altitudes. Say 200,000 ft. Way too dense. Be nice if that was fixed so higher altitude flight were realistic. Ron
December 12, 200619 yr I read in my Docs (somewhere) that FSX was written for the VISTA O/S.It said there were features that will work best 9or at all) in VISTA.Perhaps the FPS will improve too, especially with DX10.I have everything cranked up in FSX, and my 3.6GHz Core2Duo with 2GB DDR RAM, and a GeForce 7950 seems to not blink, no matter what I throw at it.
December 12, 200619 yr I think the real difference is the level of mean spirited conversation this time around. Perhaps its a sign of the times. Here in Seattle traffic is so much worse than it was 3 years ago that you see many more instances of road rage. We've had all kinds of new levels of tensions in the world recently....they said on the news now that young kids are acting more agressively on average than in prior periods...perhaps that's showing here too. There is really no point in vilifying anyone on a public forum. Communicating kindly is logical and called for whether we're discussing topics amongst fellow simmers, or ACES, and whether we are happy or dissapointed.Somebody wrote a bit ago, that they feel every right to be "fightin' mad" because they had invested $2000 in a new computer expecting fsx to run well, and it doesn't. Let's elevate the discussion to look at the root problem? Whenever we get "fightin' mad" over anything, we are really upset with ourselves. If you doubt this, look at it this way, do you agree that someone else is in control of you? If you answered no, then please review my premise. Getting "fightin mad" is a choice we make for ourselves. If you have a solid justifcation for spending $2000. on a computer, then you are not angry based on any one software purchase you might make. Major spending for me is rarely justifiable for one purpose, especially an entertainment product. I guess if you're rich you might do this, but then you're not upset if the purchase was not satisfying. If your justification was really based on your expectations for a single software title, and spending that much is not trivial for you, then turn your energy onto improving your spending dicisions, not vilifying ACEs or fellow enthusiasts on public forums. The entertainment provided by flight simulation can't be allowed to become important enough to justify spending more money than we are comfortable with, and certainly not important enough to become abusive. Remember fsx is not the real problem. The fact that you can experience it (for better or for worse) means you don't have the real problems. The real problems are famine, war, disease, and poverty.Lets have fun with our toys, spend only what you are comfortable with, and be nice to each other. Bob
December 12, 200619 yr >but IMHO a fluid, fast FPS is ESSENTIAL to have any>kind of true feeling and awareness of flight as well. To>dismiss people with differing views than your own as 'armchair>pilots' is just rude, elitist and not required.>Read what I was referring too:"I will say it again and again FSX was not made for the above average user, it was made to apease all kind of wish they could or wanna be pilots.I merely stated that I'm not a "wanna be". It therefor IS required, as FSX appears to be "very much" made for people like me.And yes, fluid fast fps is essential. Happily, my FSX at 25 fps is very fluid, and it doesn't stutter.L.Adamson
December 12, 200619 yr Well that's about the system I have. Not that I'd run it this way seriously, but crank up FSX at KSEA rwy 34R and move all sliders to the right - hello 6 -7 FPS! Even at Ultra high global settings at the same spot, you'll be lucky to to 10 - 12 FPS. You might not be blinking, but your screen will be when you try to take off ;-)Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

If you think your traffic is bad you should see it here in DC where the only place in the country where it is worse is LA. I was recently in LA and their traffic is worse than ours, but not THAT much worse. Once you deal with what i deal with every day then you can complain about traffic. Seattle traffic would be a vacation for me :)
December 12, 200619 yr I don't think John meant he was running all sliders right, rather most sliders on the right side of center. I'm impressed that he has such a positive experience with FSX, because I certainly don't get that with a similar rig. In fact, each time I load up FSX to try and love it again, it either slows right down in the FPS department (without needing an FPS counter to tell), or the blurries come to haunt me more than they ever did with FS9. I'm trying to love this new sim, but it keeps biting me in the A whenever I try. I really hope SP1 irons out these inconsistencies.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

Right now, on the other, and much faster CPU, I'm trying to "love" FS9 again, but those blurry ground textures combined with those awful looking auto-gen houses, are getting to be too much! Honest!!! This is the truth, and not a rebuttle! I was just thinking it, walked over to this CPU with Avsim already on line, and saw this reply. I did chuckle a bit, as we have 180 degree different thoughts on this, but what the heck, I suppose! :D L.Adamson
December 12, 200619 yr Yeah that helps - not! How about somthing constructive (and don't give me any of that no autogen crapola, cause it ain't washing with many of us FSX wannabees)?Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

I figured any card with 512 or greater would do the trick but i guess not. I seriously do not get any blurries any more with this card unless i go from fast forward to normal speeds and then it blurs for about 30 seconds until it redraws the landscape. This card has done wonders for fs9 and fsx as far as the visuals are concerned. It even increased the frame rate by 10% or so too ;)
