December 11, 200619 yr I have noticed a product being advertised (Extreme Landscapes-Abacus) which enhances the mesh in FSX for the world outside of America. However it states that mostly it improves the mesh to 76 meters. My question is that I thought the default now in FSX for most of the world was already 76 meters and that in some areas (namely USA) this was also improved on. Is this not the case? Has there been no improvement to mesh resolution over FS9?Could someone enlighten as to the mesh resolution in FSX for different parts of the world outside of US, and has anyone already purchased Extreme Landscapes and could comment on it?Cheers,Stuart
December 11, 200619 yr Stuart, If you are interested in terrain mesh I would highly recommend any product from FS Genesis. I'm not sure that that have anything covering areas outside the US but no doubt they will in the near future. Craig
December 11, 200619 yr Hello Stuart,Mesh resolution depends on the area. Maximum that you will find in FS X is 38 meters, but in many (most?) parts of the world, it is much less than this, much less. For example, here is the area of the Chimborazo, arguably the highest mountain in the world (as measured from the distance from the center of the Earth) and it is only LOD 6:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/162916.jpgSo, a mesh resolution of 76 meters is pretty good.It is not a good idea, by the way, to push the mesh display setting higher than the resolution that is present in game. For example, it makes little sense to have that setting to the maximum when maximum default mesh is 38 meters (and only in small parts of the world at that.) FS X will interpolate the mesh in that case and use precious processor cycles, thus lowering performance.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
December 11, 200619 yr FSGenesis already has worldwide terrain mesh for FSX. I think it is 76m. I have done some mesh scenery in the past, and FSGenesis mesh is really quite good, because the voids are interpolated and filled properly (that's not a simple matter sometimes)...And if you find spikes they get fixed.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
December 11, 200619 yr Author Commercial Member HI Stuart,Luis is correct. More specifically . . .United States - 38.2m (LOD10)Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, small part of southern Himalayas, small portion of extreme eastern China - 76m (LOD9)Everywhere else - 612m (LOD6)There are a couple of very tiny default areas that are 38m (Acropolis, Dover, and, I think, Kilamanjaro) that are 38m if memory serves.Extreme Landscapes is FSGenesis terrain mesh repackaged for world-wide brick-and-mortar distribution. Abacus and FSGenesis have had a distribution relationship going back 10 years or so. Getting it direct from FSG, though, will allow you to download it, and get updates more expediently.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
