Weather Question

I was wondering if you can customize the weather for different locations in this sim because I tried changing the weather for both San Antonio Texas and Dallas but it always gives them the same conditions. Is there a way to do this.

You might get responses if you provide better detail about what you are doing to change the weather in those locations.

I'm trying to create different weather like what the old MSFS had with weather stations that you could change like putting rain or snow at one airport and clear weather to your destination the next like advanced weather.

The answer is no. When you set weather manually it is a global setting.

Had Asobo ever said about adding advanced weather in the future because it's really missing something special that the past Sims had.Add to the fact that live weather doesn't accurately tell the weather in real time for the US.

Not really. The only thing they HAVE said is that they will not open the weather system to third-party developers. Which is beyond disappointing. Just like their weather system.

I just don't understand how weather is working in this sim and how Asobo is making decisions related to it.  Yet another case today where skies here are crystal clear, no clouds for miles, Sim real weather dialog is spot on, says clear, light winds, etc.  Get in sim and it's completely overcast.  Makes no sense. FS98 had better representation of real world weather.

MSFS live weather has been extensively discussed previously. Apparently, MSFS does not currently attempt to replicate the actual METAR weather at any particular airport, but rather reaches back into the Meteoblue model database. This enables the depicted weather to vary smoothly between different airports and at upper levels critical to aviation users. Usually Meteoblue is pretty close, but sometimes it's not.

There are both payware and freeware add-ons the "force" local weather to current METAR conditions. That provides a sense of realism, but it also can create sharp discontinuities over distance and time. Again, this has been discussed in great detail in this forum. Search for "Weather Force" for example.

We can take our pick and enjoy it either way.

That sucks because i was trying to replicate summer weather in the midwest by giving certain areas pop up storms and clear weather in other places.Oh well,i guess back to FS9 since it has dynamic weather.

The workaround at present is to download or create a batch of pre-sets and choose the appropriate one for your starting location and manually change them as your flight progresses. Note that you can change your weather pre-set while flying, there is no need to stick with what you spawned with.

So for example you might start out with a scattered clouds pre-set and then as you cross into Kansas or whatever flip over to one that has some light showers about and then as you approach a certain point swap to a pre-set that has storms in it.

Note that manually created pre-sets with a text editor give a lot more options then you get in the weather GUI in game.   This free download from nexus mods gives you a good start on building up a collection. (note you can edit these in a text editor to your liking and save them under a new name)

More Interesting Weather Presets

https://www.nexusmods.com/microsoftflightsimulator/mods/80

  • Blizzard. Lots of snow and wind. Visibility is low.
  • Fog. A simple blanket of fog across the landscape. No gusts of wind or precipitation. Visibility isn't THAT bad but you'll definitely want to fly IFR
  • Freezing Rain. This one is scary. Your aircraft will begin icing up very quickly as you gain altitude. Better take an ice rated one!
  • November Flurry. A gentle flurry. Not too cold, not too windy.
  • Scattered Showers. This one you can actually fly VFR. It's one of my favorites, as you get to maneuver around the clouds... or just go through them. And it looks amazing. Keep an eye out for rainbows!
  • Scattered Thunderstorms. This one is really cool as well. They aren't particularly violent thunderstorms but you'll find space between them.
  • Scattered Snow Showers. A crisp gray day with intermittent snow squalls. As long as you're out of the squalls there's a high enough ceiling to fly VFR. Very picturesque.
  • Spring Drizzle. A gentle drizzle with little to no wind. You know those spring days where it drizzles for 8 hours at a time? That's this.
  • Misty Rain. A calmer rain with very low visibility.
  • Tropical Storm. For the brave. Insane rain. Pretty bad wind. Not hurricane level, but it will give light craft some trouble, with 20 knot gusts. Very poor visibility.
  • Desert Heat. Around 115F/47C. It does lower your RPM by quite a bit, and I assume aircraft have less lift as well. It also looks like the engine gets hotter but I'm not sure if that affects anything. Maybe in more detailed planes it will.
  • Bitter Cold. Around -43F/C. This affects RPMs a ton, and I assume lift. There's also some nasty wind that you'll need to account for in light craft.
