It cost $900.00 and we run 2 houses with it here in NH. We often get ice storms here and even our water is pumped from our 430' deep well, so we really need the backup. If you have electric heat you may need a bigger generator, but like I said we run 2 complete houses here. 10 gal of 87oct gas runs the generator for 2 days normal use. A setup like this is cheap, but you have to know how to use it. Power to the grid has to be disconnected before putting the generator on line or it will not run. There are automatic switchers, that run generators automatically or switch boxes that make this easier, but they cost more. If you know a bit about electricity as it relates to domestic AC it is not hard to deal with. If you don't know what you are doing I would have an automatic system professionally installed. Probably in the $4,000.00 + range. here is my startup procedure in case someone else has to do it.
