You have to be on course to intercept the localizer, for the the autopilot to lock on..   the autopilot will not take you there!  (If you are not on an intercept course).

So in most cases, I just need to change the heading to that of the runway and I’m good?  That’s assuming I don’t get a ATC instruction.

I have flown that Mission on several, many occasions.  The autopilot will take you there as long as you follow ATC instructions with their "turn to heading.......climb or descend to altitude".....   I'm fairly certain this is a beginners Mission.

I still highly recommend getting out of the G1000 cockpit and use the steam gauges cockpit.

I may have missed an instruction.  It is an intermediate mission.  It wouldn’t be the first time I made a mistake.

I just watched this dorky guy fly the Mission using the G1000 cockpit.  Now I see why you are having so many problems!

No, you need to intercept the runway heading (at 30 degrees or so), not fly parallel to it!

I understand the runway heading is the same as the runway number.  So just aim for the runway heading at about a 30 degree angle offset?  Aiming towards the airport?  I think I was flying parallel which was my issue.  I’m sorry if I am a bit slow on the uptake.  I am fairly new to this.  Thanks for your patience.

Ideally, you would have an approach chart for the airport that shows you the track to be flown, but yes, that is the correct concept.  Having the G1000, would allow you the option of loading and activating the approach and letting the autopilot fly it.

Your proposed way works best if you fly by hand and can correct as you see the needles move in response to the ILS signal.

You are welcome!  Try flying the approach by hand a couple of times.. that will give you a feel for it! 😉
