"Invisible" Speed limit?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have been flying the TBM for the last days and i observed that there seems to some some kind of speedlimit to it during cruise.

While leveling off at lets say FL300 she starts to accelerate to cruise speed but regardless of what i do, i can't get here above 197kts IAS.

Even initiating a descent at full throttle she does not get past that speed. Ok, i thought i'll try and give her some extra power by editing the engine.cfg.This led me to the exact same result. She won't go faster than 197 even though the extra thrust would have easily allowed higher speeds.

This seems very odd or am i missing something here?

Anyone else has had this issue befor?

Best regards,

Tom

Not seen that before.  Maybe you are trapped in 'slow space'.  (Sorry, I have been watching too many episodes of The Expanse). 😀

On a more serious note, is there a way of telling if it is an instrumentation error?  Does your real speed or ground speed look higher?  If you switch to the outside view, the dashboard instruments may read different.

Also, there are a couple of TBM mods out there.  Are you using one of those?

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

All speeds are "frozen" in that situation.IAS 197, TAS is steady  at 315 and GS is at the same speed too (can't remember the actual value). So i assume the aircraft keeps a certain speed and it's not instrument related.

I use the WT G3000 and the latest FD Mod but i had the same issue without them.

No.  That is a strange one.  😕   And I have not seen anyone mention it before.

I will investigate it myself when I get in.  It sounds like it is auto-limiting the speed somehow.

Lack of Pitot heat wouldn't cause it, as I believe it drops to zero indicated when it freezes in the sim.

Just saw this... so there shouldn't be a structural limitation kicking in, unless it does scale with altitude.

Daher's TBM 930 offers the cruise speed typical of a light jet but with the economy of a single-engine turboprop. Maximum cruise speed at 28,000 ft. in ISA conditions is 330 KTAS; at the TBM 930's service ceiling of 31,000 ft., cruise speeds of 326 KTAS can be achieved.

Yeah i don't get it too. Maybe it has to do with MACH limitations? Not sure what this is all about. 😏

Ok another flight. Different weather, different aircraft weight, different time of day. Again cruising at FL300 and IAS is nailed to 197 kts and TAS to 315.

Do you have the "modern" flight model selected in the options?

Affirm. Modern FM is active.

Possibly the autopilot is playing up ?

Not sure about this since the AP has no Speed functions except FLC. hmm...

Sounds like the inertial separater switch is turned ON.

Nope, it is turned OFF.

In the TBM my IAS is about 197. TAS is about 320 at 30000 feet, which is the plane's specification, I think.

It's dependent on outside temperature too. Try Canada for a few extra knots.
