FSX almost daunting for brand new pilot!

"We know...."I'm sure you do by reading my signature. Anyone with less than top of the line hardware needs to pass on FSX at this point. I'm sure you can't argue that one down.O.K. back to flying FS9 while the night is still young... :-cool

Welcome! For starters, I would start and stay with FSX. FS9 out-of-the-box is outdated and can be only compared to FSX, if you spend at least another $200 just for essential add-ons, just to make it "look" somewhat comparable to FSX. Granted, FSX is a resource hog, but nevertheless, it runs okay on most systems, if tweaked well.Another good reason to start and stay with FSX is that there are a lot of good add-ons in the pipeline from PMDG, Level-D, probably some graphic eye candy from Peter Wilding and Radar Contact - just to name a few. This will give you the opportunity to gradually upgrade to a more complex simulation after you have mastered the basic FSX planes.I think right now there are just 2 "must-have" add-ons for FSX out there that you might consider: FSBuild is an excellent flightplanner (looks ugly, but does the job really well) and Active Sky 6.5 as weather planner and engine. I can also recommend MyTrafficX (at least until and if Ultimate Traffic X is out).If you want to go beyond the FSX tutorials and missions, look at this link for real life procedures, which might help you, if you are interested in more serious approach to flightsimming:http://www.faa.gov/ATPubs/AIM/index.htmGood luck!Pat

"Now of course, if your're to spend around $30 for GE Pro, you can get the FS9 city to look almost as good as the stock city with no addons, in FSX."Who flies FS9 stock anymore??? That's a mute point...

I'm happy to report, that there is some great simulated flight in FSX with a CPU of my specs. I've only been simming for nearly 20 years.........so at least I hope, I have something to compare with...L.AdamsonAthlon 3800+/2Gig/Geforce 7600GS 256meg/1600*1200*32 res.

O.K. Dillon it's time to get out while you still can. The FSX bandwagon has officially rolled in... :-bang

Your right I'm gone... :-outta

>Who flies FS9 stock anymore??? That's a mute point...If FS9 just had those crisp glossy high resolution textures of FSX, that even addon's such GE Pro can't fix, then it would indeed, be a fantastic simulation! But "sadly" it can't be helped! :-lol

If I read up this thread you asked me to prove my point about you flying exclusively over rural areas. I did that to an extent then you came back with,"By the way-"Gone with the Wind" wasn't about a preacher in Australia either...."Help me understand where in this did I change any point??? :-hmmm It's more like you jumped ship versus me. I'm the one that's bored...Let's just say you can't prove your point and we'll call it even... :-)

>"Geeze thats a beaut! Think I'll be getting it and flying it>over Detroit!">>Make sure you turn on the autogen before you go up (anything>less is cheating). :-hah >>Brian, that's the bird I'm talking about. Try that bird in>FSX over New York City. No 'Tweaking' in the world is going>to help you with that flight...I don't know if I'm brave enough for that, but I'd be willing to give KLAX a shot.If you say it's a good plane, I'll pick it up.

:-lolWhatever your smoken I want some of it.Have a good nite Geofa, see you around... :-)

You got me... :-)I was thinking about 'The Thorn Birds' which stared Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward. I got the DVD right here. This still has nothing to do with today's topic...
