NO VISIBLE RAIN IN V5.1 WITH EA

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Curious about how the sim would handle a raging snow storm, I parked at KIBM this morning. Unfortunately, while the sky eventually clouded up into a full haze with limited visibility, I have not seen a single snow flake. However, when I switch back to basic view, without EA, the storm is raging.

I really do like EA most of the time, but it has its failings...do any of you have any similar experiences, or suggestions on correcting this?

R U sure about no rain?? You need to look extremely carefully. A passing glance and you'll not see it. 😉

With EA on, the rainfall is almost imperceptible but it is there.

There was another forum post about this in the Nov/Dec timeframe last year I recall.

Also, try the Autoexposure setting and enable that if its not enabled. I found this to make a small visible difference to the raindrops falling when EA is enabled.

It needs a little adjustment, but otherwise I feel that LM have gotten the depiction of rain about right compared to the real world.

I think that we have gotten used to FSX and non-EA P3D version of what rain should look like, i.e. we think it should be a lot more visible in the sim than it really is in reality. Rain isn't that visible unless it's a heavy downpour.
I used to amend the PrecipParticle.fx shader file to stop it looking like I was flying the Millennium Falcon in hyperspace whenever it was raining. Not so any more.
The depiction of snow does need work though.

Here's some light rain. It's visible (you can see the streaks), but it's not overdone.

I think lighter rain like your picture looks good.  However for me it only works on aircraft with True Glass or similar that can model it hitting the windscreen from the vc

After some tweaking here and there, I was able to see rain while using EA. And, while  I still prefer EA with rather than without, I have noticed a lack of texture coloration, even a bland sameness which is not the case when setting up normally, without EA.

I guess, at least for me, EA is still a work in progress and like so many of you, I wait for LM to publish an update to v5.1 that will resolve these and other presentation issues.

Nice screenshot illustrating what's possible with the EA 👍. I get the sense in P3Dv5.1 that there's more latitude to how rain is depicted depending upon actual weather conditions and the ability to show light rain to heavy showers.
