Sim Market hacked?

Featured Replies

Don't want to start unverified rumours but... I went to Sim Market today to download the latest update to the MB339. While there I got a Microsoft Edge warning that passwords and usernames on this site [simmarket.com] have been hacked and leaked and that my password and username are among those on lists shared on the internet.

I have changed my password. If you have ever bought on Sim Market, maybe you should too.....

Way to go Sim Market! 😞

I am using Chrome and got a warning about a security breach in January. It also involved Simmarket, but about 70 other sites as well. I later learned that this was related to a general hack that involved my email address, as well as about 100 million others. Simmarket was only involved in this because I was registered on their site with my compromised email address. I changed password and email address on Simmarket in January and have not had any warnings ever since, including right now.

I guess what I want to say is: it may not be Simmarket's fault. If you use the same email address at other sites as well, try to login there and see if Edge gives you a warning.

I have just been in with Edge and Brave browsers.  I didn't see a warning, so make sure it isn't a scam pop-up trying to get you to put your details in.

I changed my password anyway just in case - it doesn't hurt once in a while.

My new password system is longer but easier to remember now anyway.

Now I always use 'SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarves', as someone told me you should always use a password with at least eight characters in it! 😀

I am available for bookings if you need me.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Changed my password as a precaution, but I suspect it was more likely to be a scam message.

On the subject of which, most people are unaware that I am in fact a Nigerian Prince, and I need your help to get 37 billion dollars out of the country, which for same bizarre reason means I need you to go to the local shop and buy some 200 quid Amazon some gift cards, then tell me the serial numbers for them.

If your browser warns you that means the credentials you used there are part of a list of leaked credentials.

It is very important to understand that, by itself, that says absolutely nothing about SimMarket.
Depending on the sources your browser checks your credentials against, you might even be warned if that specific password has been leaked because somebody else used it on some other site that was hacked.

It's a nice idea for a feature but it's half-baked and has damaged a lot of site's reputations because of misunderstandings like this.
All that being said, changing your passwords every now and then is always recommended anyway.

Thanks for that Marius - that makes more sense.

The email address I used does not flag on the "have I been pwned" website. The password has been in use there for as long as I can remember though. That's changed now. It was also definitely a MS Edge warning, not a fake scam pop up.

Time to change my Avsim one then too....
