January 10, 200719 yr re: Vista - from what I have been hearing and reading about Vista, I plan to put off "upgrading" to it for as long as is possible. There are just too many things that I don't like about it (crazy DRM policies, performance issues, built-from-scratch TCP/IP stack, and besides, XP works fine for me most of the time!!!). So I would hope that developers focus on practically anything other than Vista compatibility, at least for a while.I'm starting to wish that FS-X ran on Linux or OS/X 8^) .Dave BlevinsP.S. references about Vista:http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=12314http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.txthttp://www.grc.com/SecurityNow.htm#51http://www.grc.com/SecurityNow.htm#73 System: Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 mobo *** i7 2700K @ 5gHz w/ Corsair H80 cooler NVidia GTX 570 OC *** 8 GB 1600 Corsair Vengeance DRAM *** CoolerMaster HAF X case System overclocked and tuned for FSX by fs-gs.com Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog stick/throttle & CH Products Pro Pedals Various GoFlight panels *** PFC avionics stack
January 13, 200719 yr The latest show has even scarier info.http://www.grc.com/SecurityNow.htm#74The fact that they are intentionally making the Vista hardware and software less stable by including 'tilt' bits in the code is disturbing. The heavy encryption on the video, audio and data buses has to really add a lot of overhead not to mention possible instability with all the multiple encryption key checking of the hardware and software. This may be the beginning of the end for the PC hobbyist since it will no longer be an open system. Much of the hardware will now be secret due to DRM.
