When you have to Go-Around

Featured Replies

I attempted what I thought would be a "nice" flight on Pilot Edge.  I could tell from the get go that it wasn't going to go smoothly and that I was behind the power curve, basically, the entire flight.

Routing KTNP TNP V370 PSP V388 PDZ KRAL (That's Twenty Nine Palms to Riverside Muni in CA).

It's a short flight and with air traffic services provided by actual humans I expected a bit of a workload.  On departure.... oh wait let's back up.  I never briefed myself the departure.  I departed RY 26 at KTNP, and which way should I turn back to the VOR?  Or should I just turn SW and join the TNP231R towards PSP?  I decided to answer this question while hand flying this snappy little Phenom, whilst speaking to air traffic (and CTAF).  I turned right and then left, and got all confused looking at the MFD, and lacked major situational awareness.  Anyway after that fiasco I got on course and headed towards PSP (that's where the pics start off).  I felt great, I picked up the ATIS on comm2, everything was going swimmingly.  I got the KRAL airport in sight for the visual, but then I just was too high and too fast.  I attempted to land but on about a 1 mile final I decided to go around.....  And entered left traffic for RY 27...eventually landed again normally.  Do you ever have an "off" day?  Anyway here's the pics.  Aerobask Phenom 300 and a wonderful metallic color changing livery by 'Digimagician'

Oh yeah, to make matters worse, this was a partially IMC flight - which is kinda rare for SoCal (or is it experts?)
