Something else that occurs to me:

Look in the desktop app under library and in the upper right corner you should see "Filters"

Check to see what the settings are, there.

HiFlyer,

Success.

I just did a quick circuit at YBBN. Brilliant Flight with a fairly rough lfirst anding. Very hard to judge things as it is so very different to normal XPlane. Love it.

Couple of things.

In filters there are three items and the only one turned off is "hidden"

I found it easy once I started it on virtual desktop ... it all seemed to work properly. It is still NOT in my library.  Another thing I find weird is the fact that my hand controllers change from white to somewhat realistic colours ie grey, white and black.  I also have a large white arrow which I cannot get rid of.

Apart from that the pointer sensitivity seems somewhat lacking and it is very hard to turn or move switches etc.  How long do you think it will be before hand tracking is supported in any sim?

And finally, mainly due to your patience and guidance, I am at least on the way, and for that I am extremely grateful. After lunch I am going to try MSFS ... wish me luck LOL

Regards

Tony

The X-plane developers replace the default depiction of the oculus controller with their own version with custom functions.

As for the big white pointer, its almost a certainty that you have "enable mouse cursor" active in X-plane vr settings.

Glad you have most things working, now!

I guess its going to depend of Asobos particular focus at any given time.

If they decide its important, then it will be sooner rather than later.

If not....

HiFlyer,

I am having all sorts of problems here now.

Can you tell me if I really, really have to start XPlane11 wait until start, click on settings/VR hardware and enable headset each time I want to fly?

I have seen Videos where there is xplane in the library. The guy simply clicks on that and away he goes.

I would like to achieve the same level of simplicity if it is possible.

I plugged in my headset this morning and could not get into settings at all and spent three hours googling etc trying to work out what the problems was.  In the end I unplugged the cable link to reconnect to the charger and I was then able to get into settings. I have no idea what the idea behind that system is and I can't remember if I was previously plugging the cable link in before or after activating XPlane.

I have yet to get into MSFS2020 and I have no idea what the problem there is.

However, I feel if there is some way to just put a "shortcut" of xplane, msfs, or P3D into the library that I was simply able to click on (point to) it would make life immeasurably better and less stressful.

Regards

Tony

Could you check your filters again? There should only be one with a checkmark: Unknown Sources. The rest should be unchecked.

  • Did you purchase MSFS through Steam? Or did you Purchase it though the Xbox App?
  • What steps are you taking to connect to MSFS VR?
  • Are you using any external apps like the Oculus Tray Tool, or the Oculus debug tool?
  • Are you attempting to connect wirelessly or with a Link cable or both?
  • Under "Devices" on the desktop app, are you showing an all green connection?

Hello again mate,

OK.

1. I purchased through the market place

2. Loading up MSFS, going to options selecting VR (left the settings pretty much "as is"

3. Neither but I have just downloaded the Oculus Tray Tool

4. Cable link

5. Yes Green.

I have sort of moved on temporarily due to frustration and am now getting frustrated with P3D LOL

This was remarkably easy to set up and it actually appears in my library.  However, my hand controllers do not show up (I am actually not using my left controller at the moment and that is in a cupboard. What is weird is the fact that I get a notice that it cannot find my left hand controller.  All I am getting is a white dot which just indicates what I am looking at. I cannot click on anything in the cockpit with the mouse either.  Obviously, that is a ME problem as far as I can see, but I do not know where to go to get my right hand controller back.

Sorry mate I pushed the wrong button there.

"Could you check your filters again? There should only be one with a checkmark: Unknown Sources. The rest should be unchecked."

I am pretty sure you have mentioned this previously and I have checked and confirm that only unknown sources is ticked.

It seems I am fumbling/bumbling from one self inflict problem to the next one at this stage.

I am really enjoying VR in Xplane and apart from the rigmarole involved in getting started each time it is relatively problem free.  I can only thank you for that.

I would suggest not getting too far into the Oculus tray tool yet as it can sometimes cause more issues than it solves, especially when you're new to using it.

Here is how I start VR in Microsoft flight simulator.

First I start the SIM.

When it's completely booted up I then go into the headset and switch to the desktop application.

With the desktop application running then switch Microsoft flight simulator to VR mode, at which point you should see the game in the headset and it will be requesting you to hit the spacebar to Center The View.

Or at least that's what should be happening.

Edit: by the way I have not played P3d in quite some time, but I vaguely remember that it only uses the white dot, and you have to look at what you want and then click it. At least that's my vague remembrance.

Ok mate.

I am in MSFS  VR now but again I have no pointer and mouse does not click on things. So this is much the same problem as I have with P3Dv4.5

The Sim has no VR hands. You can only manipulate controls via the mouse.

You should be able to do a regular mouse pointer mouse-over the same as in X-plane and control via clicks and thumb-rolls. If you are not seeing that, I'm not sure what the problem could be.

Make sure all control settings are at default, as a first attempt at checking to see what might be wrong.

OK.

I now have a mouse pointer but it is not the flashest system is it LOL

Have you any idea if and when pointers/controllers will be available for MSFS or even if that is being worked on at the moment.

Also have you any idea what the problem is with P3D.  I have no mouse pointer or hand controllers

Well, I keep in mind that they apparently had no intentions at all toward vr originally, and only implemented it as an afterthought due to popular demand.

They will almost certainly expand on what they've done, but who knows where that is on their priority list.

Meanwhile, there is the possibility of using things like ELISE from VoiceAttack to alleviate some of the load while in the air.....

Also meanwhile: https://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv4/prepar3d/options/controls/using_the_mouse.html

HiFlyer,

Is this a devious way to tell me that P3D does not support controllers either? LOL

I also want to slow down the movement of the round dot if that is possible and can you tell me where to find that please
