Community Folder Mod Folders

Featured Replies

It is not clear to me at what folder level mods in the Community folder have to be?  For example, can I put the folder workingtitle-g3000-v0.7.1 in the Community folder (which I prefer since it clearly indicates the update version), or do I need to 'dig down' in this folder and put the folder workingtitle-g3000 in to the Community folder. I know you can't put a zip file directly in the Community folder.

And I have the same question if using the Add-Ons Linker app. Can the Add-On linker 'work with' the workingtitle-g3000-v0.7.1 folder when setting up the shortcuts in the Community folder, or does the Add-On linker need the lower level workingtitle-g3000 folder as a starting point?

Using the higher level folder workingtitle-g3000-v0.7.1 seems to work both directly with the Community folder or with the Add-On Linker as far as I can tell.  But I'm not sure if this will always be the case with other mods. Is there a general rule about this 'folder level' issue?

Thanks,

Al

The folder that contains "layout.json" and "manifest.json" files MUST be the folder that is in the Community folder.

The Addons Linker app will find that folder for you and create the link to it in the Community folder. You can use any folder structure you wish in the Addons Linker app.

The folder workingtitle-g3000 is the proper folder, and, Jim is correct - the files he mentions must be in there and, with AddonsLinker you can organize your folder structure any way you wish.

Note that you can rename the mod folders in the Community folder to anything you want to. I rename all of mine to keep things short and tidy. My Working Title mods are renamed something like WT-G1000_071, WT-G3000_075, WT-CJ4_052. The last three digits being the current version I have. Makes it easy to check if you have the latest version.

Only one I don’t rename is the FBW as it updates daily and it might mess with the auto updater.

Ah, that explains why using workingtitle-g3000-v0.7.1 has worked -- I do use the Add-On linker so apparently it has 'dug down' to get the workingtitle-g3000 folder actually needed.

That's a very nice feature of the Add-On Linker since it makes it easy to keep track of which updates I am using.

Thanks all for the info!

I have made my own add-on folder structure outside the sim and use Add-On Linker to link my add-ons to the community folder, works like a charm.

Yep, that's what I do as well.
