While the first post looks more lifelike, the second post building and rooftop colors seem closer to reality.

Hi James, that may well just be the light in this shot. The atmospherics were a lot cloudier for the trip that shot came from. I've done the same sort of tour in bright sunlight settings and the roof colurs are more like the XP shots.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

and yes I need a ton of storage

Tell me about it. With backups, my sim pc has hit around 70 TB of storage now. Most of that for Ortho4XP stuff. When I got my new machine built for MSFS I was sort of anticipating being able to (or even needing to) download lots of scenery and cache it. Turns out I don't need to do that, so what with the sim pc and the extra 16 tb of HD I never bothered installing I now have over 110 TB of SSD/HD sitting on my desk across two PCs.

The first mainframe I worked on used 7Mb removable DASD spindles!

Absolutely true...I just did a new flight out of Venice in some weather to see the colour variation....different than my original post showing a modeled Venice.

Yup exactly.  This large storage does become an issue, concern over HD failure for instance.  Now I see there are 16GB internal and external drives, lighting fast but of course there is a larger cost.

I "live away" in my RV in winter usually and I take along my PC and suite of external HD's with sim data (ortho scenery), this way I can flightsim on the road, but otherwise there is no online option available.  While there can be some high speed internet in more expensive RV places, you can't download data. So XP works great in that scenario.

I've flown around it with bright sun (MSFS) and it's still more red than it should be.  BTW, don't take an ultralite around the city at low altitudes unless you like melting and drouping.

Yep, that's exactly why I usually have PG turned off, but the non-PG Venice in MSFS is pretty poor. That's why my original comment about preferring to have decent 3d modelling - you can get real down and dirty with it - my preferred mode of travel is rooftop to maybe 200 feet in the H135 and you can't do that in PG.
