Will MSFS simulate air humidity at some point?

Featured Replies

Good morning,

I'm pretty sure this has been asked before but since i haven't heard or read anything further about it, i'm asking.

Has there been anything said dev wise if MSFS will properly simulate humid air at some point? At the moment it's just visibility from horizon to horizon (except fog, rain etc.) and i don't get a feel of humid air or smog and such.

For example i am looking out my window, it's clear sky, no clouds but we have very humid air and visibility is only around 7 Km. I am really missing that in the sim.

Best regards,

Tom

It is called 'aerosol' and you will find it on the weather / time of day page if you click on the icon at the top of the screen.

It may not just be just humidity, as it will simulate a collection of dust / vapour particles (aerosols) in the air, but it does the job.
It is a live effect so you will see the immediate change on screen.

They have mentioned they may look at having a proper visibility / range setting at some stage.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Yep i know that slider and it's effects....but it would be nice to have something like that implemented in live weather.

Yeah they have mentioned a complete weather overhaul by the end of this year. Seb(Asobo CEO) specifically mentioned in one of the Q&A about rebooting the atmospheric simulation which will bring in proper visibility settings and haze scattering which has been missing since begining. Aerosol density does nothing to alter visibility in sim and is also completely absent in live weather. IMO they should completely get rid of aerosol density and give us visibility sliders that depend on parameters like haze, dust and humidity.

I believe this weather overhaul is tied to DX12 update.

Thanks! Great to hear that. Looking forward to it!

Just so you know, you're not the only one who find such crucial weather parameters missing from the sim absolutely jarring. There is a thread on this on the official forums regarding this and has 200+ votes

Are you sure Baber?  I thought aerosol intensity reduced visibility range on mine - I will have to check again tonight.

And I have seen people post screenshots of being almost closed in, in foggy conditions.  I am not sure if it was produced by live weather or if they produced the condition with the sliders, but you can definitely get reduced visibility distance if that is what you are talking about.

On my machine it's rare for the Live Weather to actually work with respect to visibility.

I checked this today.  Maybe live weather doesn't pick up visibility range, but a manual adjustment to the aerosol setting definitely affects visibility range.
