Weather theme suggestion: building thunderstorms

Featured Replies

Although I like the weather themes in MSFS, scattered clouds being my favorate in terms of pure graphical bliss (and bliss it is....), I would appreciate a bit more dynamics. I would love to be in the midst of highly active storms developing rather than clinically setting the conditions using buttons and sliders. And having the added possibility to enter the atmospheric conditions for such storms to dynamically develop would be a great feature as well.

Although we have seen the rolling clouds in the various videos (I have not seen them in the sim so far, even with increased sim rate), I still get the impression weather is not that dynamic in MSFS. Perhaps I should position myself in one spot for a whole day and watch live weather unfold.

But a building storms weather theme would be much desired..Hopefully they will implement this.

well they are there all the time, just go fly in bad weather spots.

the live weather def is dynamic.

Where!? Lol. Seriously the real weather system is broken. I have, at times seen a thunderstorm in the sim but it's very hard to find and when you do they seem to melt like cotton candy or have that lava lamp effect.

In Florida this time of year it's a pretty good bet you'll be seeing thunderstorms in the area daily. I do see constant lightning in the sim, with this ugly thin layer of semi-transparent high overcast and sometimes a few scattered lower level clouds that (again only sometimes) have little rain extension to the ground. That, is not a thunderstorm. That is a confused, broken weather system.

When it works, it works beautifully, but the real weather needs a lot of attention especially for the thunderstorms that are not part of a much larger "system" coming through the area. Noting that, when there are large weather systems the in sim weather engine seems to work actually very well.

Recently I have been trying to avoid thunderstorms. Flew the other day from Invermere CAA8, I think, to Calgary. Pressed “fly now” and had to dodge one on take off, nearly crashed into a peak in the thick clouds, turned on NEXRAD to find weather going downhill fast around Calgary. Should never have taken off lol!

Currently over much of Northern Europe METARS have towering cumulus. Did manage a flight in CAVOK from Vaasa EFVA to Umeå ESNU so could happily hand fly.

I only use Live weather.

If you then want to find "intresting" placers to fly, use windy.com and a live weather site.
