Whenever (if ever!) they manage to develop an integrated system where the "capsule" remains a part of the launch/landing booster, I'll consider it a great step forward.

Check out British genius! 😄 Reaction Engines are developing a revolutionary air breathing rocket engine that will make the space plane a reality. Take-off rom a runway, fly into orbit, land on a convectional runway.

Tons of funding and they are making great progress with the engine. 👍

A truly versatile propulsion system – SABRE is an air-breathing rocket engine that can propel an aircraft from zero to five times the speed of sound in the atmosphere and 25 times the speed of sound for space access. Highly scalable, this pioneering breakthrough boasts a huge range of operation with the potential to redefine what’s possible in the world of powered flight.

The British have always been great at the design and development stage, but getting most of those designs into production has been a different story.

Very true Mr Christopher. And usually our designs end up abroad where someone else exploits them.
